The Demon Deacons of Wake Forest are off to one of the best starts in program history, jumping out to a 13-3 record, but tonight will be a true litmus test for this team since three of those 13 wins came in overtime, and overall they have played just the 70th most difficult schedule in the country.
The Wake Forest offense has been the real key to the team’s success thus far as the Deacons are averaging 80 points per game and rank in the Top 25 in the country in field goal efficiency and shooting percentage.
As for the Number 8 ranked Blue Devils, the team has really been affected by COVID-19 during the early stages of the season. Duke has played just two games in the last three weeks and they are coming off a 76-74 upset loss to Miami-Florida on Saturday night as a 15-point chalk. The team’s only other loss came at Ohio State and when the team has been healthy enough to play, they have been very efficient on offense, ranking sixth in the country in scoring with 83.3 points per game against the 21st most-difficult schedule of opponents.
With both of these offenses clicking, we think this could really turn into an up-and-down game tonight. Since the start of the 2019 season, the Blue Devils have gone over the total in 65% of their ACC games and during that same time frame, Wake Forest is 11-4 to the over when listed as a home dog.
This will, by far, be the best offensive team the Deacons have faced all season so as Duke continues to round into shape from a health standpoint, they should be able to score their fair share of points tonight, while Wake certainly has the fire power to try and match the Blue Devils on the offensive end, so let’s play over the total of 151 tonight in ACC Country.
