Battle of two top 20 teams
Michigan State and Illinois have both hit skids. Illinois looked like it was primed to win at least a share of the Big 10 championship but after being blown out by Purdue and losing to Rutgers by 11 points they are now behind Purdue by half a game and are also behind Wisconsin by way of a tiebreaker.
Michigan State has lost three of their last four games including a huge, embarrassing collapse against Penn State.
I can see why the oddsmakers still have this game as a pick-em even though Michigan State is at home. Michigan State has already played Illinois this season and they lost by a point at Illinois. The problem is that Illinois was missing their starting point guard and center yet Michigan State still somehow found a way to lose.
Michigan State needs to find a way to stop Kofi Cockburn who is second in the Big 10 in points and first in rebounds.
This game is basically a tossup but I think Illinois has a bit more to play for. They are playing for the conference’s one seed and I think that will ultimately make the difference.
