Matchup: San Antonio Spurs vs. LA Lakers
The second half of the NBA season continues on Friday with a Western Conference matchup between the San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Lakers. The downtrodden Spurs are last in the West, posting just 11 wins on the season, while the LA Lakers 9th in the conference and are fighting for a spot in the Play-In at the very least. The Spurs are a punching bag for most teams, yet San Antonio is 1-1 against the Lakers. The odds are pending, and the Spurs are a guaranteed underdog, but with nothing to lose and all the pressure on LA, San Antonio could surprise the Lakers once again.

Spurs vs. Lakers History
Friday marks the 188th regular season meeting between the Spurs and Lakers. The series began 48 years ago in 1976 and historically this has been a tightly contested matchup. The all-time series is nearly square at 94-93, with the Lakers barely edging out the Spurs. They’ve met many times in the playoffs (56 games; 34-22 Lakers), but not recently as the last postseason matchup was over 10 years ago in 2013. San Antonio holds the current title of the series after their 14-point win over LA in the latest matchup, but as one of the worst teams in the NBA the Spurs aren’t likely to extend their streak over the Lakers.
Spurs vs. Lakers Game Predictions
Don’t overthink this one, take the Lakers to beat the Spurs on Friday. The Lakers are 19-9 at home (win-rate: 67.9%), while the Spurs are 6-23 on the road (win-rate: 20.7%). Betting on the Spurs is always a risk, and it’s one I’m not willing to take against LA. Sure, the Lakers are 1-1 against the Spurs, but in the loss, LA was without their versatile Center Anthony Davis, who went for 37-points against the Spurs the night before. San Antonio’s big-man, rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama, is leading the Spurs with 20.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game, but with Davis on the floor, Wemby faces one of the NBA’s best Centers.
Lebron James is listed as out for LA’s matchup with the Warriors the night before, but even if Lebron misses back-to-back games, his absence against the Spurs won’t matter much. D’Angelo Russell has stepped up in recent weeks, averaging 20+ points in his last 20 games. San Antonio has the worst defense in the West, allowing 120 points per game, which doesn’t inspire much confidence, and gives the Lakers a clear path to victory.
Here are my picks for the Spurs vs. Lakers Friday night matchup:
- Moneyline Pick: LA Lakers
- ATS Pick: LA Lakers
- O/U Pick: Over
