Washington’s Kyle Kuzma Ruled Out For Clash With Cleveland | Cavaliers vs Wizards | OSB
Cleveland Cavaliers at Washington Wizards
By Sam Batz
The Cleveland Cavaliers will travel to the nation’s capital on Monday, Feb. 6th to face the Washington Wizards. The Cavs will be in Washington D.C. for the second matchup of back-to-back road games. The Wizards on the other hand, have a rest day before facing the Cavaliers, but are coming off a tough 123-125 loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday. The Wizards will be in Washington for their next three games and host the Cavaliers for the first contest of their brief home-game stretch.
The Cavaliers are one of five teams in the East who have 30+ wins thus far. They are currently the 5th seed with a 32-22 record, although that will change after their matchup with the Pacers, the result of which I do not yet know. Cleveland is 5-5 in their last 10 games, relying heavily on a defense that gave up just 106.4 opponent points per game over those 10 matchups. The Cavs reliance on their defensive prowess stems from their lack of offensive ingenuity. They rank in the bottom-five for points per game (111.6) and have scored less than 115 points in 68.5% of their matchups (37 out of 54). Guards Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland are the only two players who average more than 20 points a game. Nonetheless, with their top-ranked defense, the Cavaliers have the fifth best odds to win the Eastern Conference (+1000), and will almost certainly see the postseason.
The Washington Wizards are fighting it out in the lower half of the Eastern Conference standings. They are currently the 11th seed with a 24-28 record, but are just 2.5 games out of the top-8. Unfortunately, the Wizards have lost 2 straight games after going on a 6 game winning tear. Washington went 8-5 in January but have failed to win a game since. Washington is led by a trio of powerful Wizards, Kristaps Porziņģis (22.5 PPG), Bradley Beal (22.4 PPG), and Kyle Kuzma (21.3 PPG), all of whom are averaging over 20 points per game. Porziņģis posted 38 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists in his last game, but the Wizards still lost by two-points. Outside of their coven of three, the Wizards aren’t seeing enough production from the bench. They now face the best defensive side in the league and will need their big-three to show up ready to play.

Cavaliers vs. Wizards All-Time Series
The Cleveland Cavaliers and Washington Wizards have played a total of 229 regular season games from 1970 to now. The Wizards have the historical advantage with 118 wins over Cleveland 111 wins. They played each other back in October, and it ended in Cleveland’s favor with a score of 117-107. That game was played in Cleveland, but now the tables have turned, as Monday’s game will be in Washington D.C, home of the Wizards, who have the same number of wins(12) both at home and on the road. The Cavaliers don’t travel particularly well, but will look to win their third straight game in their series with the Wizards on Monday.
Prediction
I would take the Cavaliers over the Wizards. Cleveland is a great defensive team, and the Wizards are a middling offense. Moreover, Washington’s Bradley Beal is listed as “day-to-day” and their starting small forward, Kyle Kuzma, has been ruled out for Monday’s clash with the Cavs. This means Washington will be without one of their top-scorers, against Cleveland’s top-ranked defense who held the Wizards to just 107 points in their last meeting, which is impressive considering the game went into overtime, and the Cavs still held the Wizards under 110. Without Kuzma, Washington will struggle to score against Cleveland’s ruthless defense, and the Cavaliers will come out on top once again against the Wizards on Monday.
Prediction: Cleveland Cavaliers Moneyline and the Under.
