Warriors End Road Trip In Cleveland | Warriors vs Cavaliers | OSB
Golden State Warriors at Cleveland Cavaliers
By Sam Batz
The Cleveland Cavaliers (nba.com/cavaliers) will host the Golden State Warriors (nba.com/warriors) on Friday, Jan. 20th, in Cleveland’s Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse Arena, for a classic East vs. West matchup. The Cavs and Warriors have played once, back in November, and Friday’s game will be the last contest between the two rivals during the regular season. If they want to play again after Friday, it will have to be in the NBA Finals.
Cleveland (28-18) is currently the 5th seed in the East, and are 5.5 games behind the conference leading Celtics. The Cavaliers are coming off a 114-115 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, but were without All-Star Shooting Guard, Donovan Mitchell, who sat out because of a groin injury. Cleveland Point Guard Darius Garland led the team with 24 points, but the Cavs ultimately fell short after Dillon Brooks of the Memphis Grizzlies blocked Garland’s last second three-point attempt as time expired. It was a tough loss, but the Cavs will be happy to be back home for Friday’s contest. Cleveland has won 82.6% of their home games (19-4), and goes up against a Warriors team that has struggled to win on the road this season.
Golden State (22-22) has somehow snuck their way into the 6th spot in the West after going 8-7 in both November and December. Regardless, the Warriors are 6-4 in their last 10 games and have welcomed Steph Curry back into the starting lineup. Curry missed 14 games due to injury and the Warriors were 6-8 without him. Curry leads the team with 29.3 points per game, followed by Jordan Poole with 21.0, then Klay Thompson with 20.9. The defending champions have a lot of work to do to secure a spot in the postseason, but with the starting lineup back to full health, don’t count the Warriors out just yet.

Warriors vs. Cavaliers All-Time Series
There have been 119 regular season games played between the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Golden State holds a 15 game lead, with 67 wins, while Cleveland trails with 52. The Warriors have won an astounding 11 consecutive games over the Cavaliers from 2017-2022. In other words, Cleveland hasn’t beaten the Warriors since 2016, with the last matchup ending 101-106 in Golden State’s favor. The taste of 11 consecutive losses will be a bitter reminder for the Cavaliers not to take the Warriors too lightly.
Prediction
I like the Cavaliers in this one. ESPN’s Match Predictor is giving Cleveland a 61.3% chance to win, and although the spread is not out yet, I guarantee the Cavs will be the favorite. Donovan Mitchell, who is averaging 28.4 points per game, is questionable to play on Friday against the Warriors. However, Mitchell missed Cleveland’s last game against the Grizzlies, and the Cavs nearly pulled off a spectacular win, putting up 114-points, despite Mitchell’s absence.
Friday’s matchup will be a home game for the Cavaliers, who have one of the best home records (19-4) in the league. Conversely, the Warriors have been shockingly dreadful on the road. Golden State has a 22.7% win-rate in away games, one of the worst in the NBA. Moreover, the Warriors are 2-10 against the East on the road, resulting in a horrendous 16.7% win-rate. Friday’s game is also the second of a back-to-back for the Warriors, and the final match of a five-game road trip. Golden State will be exhausted when they get to Cleveland, but with the Western Conference as close as it is, the Warriors can’t afford to rest any of their starters. Cleveland has had a day to rest and will enter Friday’s contest fresh and ready to play.
Prediction: Cleveland Cavaliers Moneyline and the Over.
