Undefeated Orlando Magic Travel to LA

The Orlando Magic are off to a hot start. They are undefeated at 2-0 and are tied for the best point differential in the NBA at +17.5. Orlando is led by Franz Wagner’s 21.0 points per game, as well as two first overall draft picks in Markelle Fultz and Paolo Banchero. The Magic have a nice mix of young and old talent, and might be this year’s dark horse if they can keep it up.

The Magic’s first real test comes tonight against the LA Lakers before they face an even tougher test against the LA Clippers on Tuesday. Orlando may be undefeated, but they have yet to face a top-tier team. These next two games will help us gauge how good the Magic really are. Conversely, we know how good the LA Clippers can be. At 2-1, the Clippers have looked like true contenders. Paul George and Kawhi Leonard are averaging 27.3 and 23.0 points per game respectively, and Russell Westbrook and Ivica Zubac have provided excellent support on both sides of the ball.

Despite the Magic’s early success, I like the Clippers in this one. LA has the skill, experience, and chemistry to be a top-5 team in the NBA this season, while Orlando is still developing. The Clippers are averaging 121.3 points per game, while the Magic average 109.0. Orlando is holding opponents to 91.5 points, but again, the Magic have yet to face a serious offense, and the Clippers are prepared to show Orlando what they’ve been missing.

So for our Magic vs. Clippers expert pick, take the LA Clippers to cover the spread (7.5) on Tuesday.
