The Lakers and Mavericks are coming into this matchup as two of the teams that have completely changed their makeup. The Lakers and Mavericks both had fiery trade deadlines. The Mavericks made the first huge move of the deadline as they traded for guard Kyrie Irving after the Nets would not give him the contract extension he wanted. This has not led to immediate success for the Mavericks as they won their first two games with Irving but then proceeded to lose three of four when Luka Doncic returned. The Mavericks are currently the sixth seed in the West and sit at 32-29 on the season. They are just 4.5 games back of the two seed in the West though so if they can tap into this offense they can easily be a top four team in the West come playoffs. 

The Lakers also made a ton of changes at the deadline including dealing away former MVP Russell Westbrook and it has led to some immediate success. They have won back to back games over the Pelicans and the Warriors and are now 28-32 on the season. They are still the 13th seed in the West but they are now just two games back of the seven seed as the bottom of the West is a cluster of teams. This team would be very scary if they could sneak into the playoffs. They have 22 games left in the season and if they can go at least 13-9 I think they can get into the Play In tournament. One problem though, is that De”Angelo Russell got injured and hurt his ankle in the last game. His timetable to return is still up in the air as we wait to hear more. 

I like the Lakers in this one. The Lakers are playing great basketball and this has come with Anthony Davis playing some subpar basketball. They have also covered in their last two games. The Mavericks have a horrible defensive frontcourt, it might actually be the worst in the NBA, so Davis should absolutely feast in this one. If Russell misses this game, Lebron and Davis should pick up the slack and control the pace of this game. This team now has a ton of shooters around its superstars and the Lakers should be able to keep this game close. I think this game comes down to the final possession. These teams are both going to be threats in the West come playoff time.
