Tournaments in the air | NBA Game Review | Bet the Edge

Alright, Tommy D here. This is another edition of a bet the edge podcast, March 1. Yep. It’s March, ladies and gentlemen. And you know, that means a couple of things here, but we got. We got tournaments in the air here. We got conferences, conference games coming up. And of course, we got the NBA.

 So I’m going to get right to my two co hosts and we’re going to be covering a couple of games for Wednesday, actually three games so in the house, we got Mr. Scott Matthews at SM sports pics. So Tommy, what’s up man? And we got Dre Fernandez from online sports bet.com. Gentlemen, how are we doing today on this first day of March?

Can you believe it? March Madness one of the biggest months in the in the history of our business is starting today. And we got 31 days of excitement. 

I’m jacked up, I see some great value. And there’s gonna be some incredible matchups coming up with conference tournaments, the NBA and then going into the you know, the sweet 16 and the whole nine yards all the way to the championship game. I believe it’s on April. Was it April 4 This year is right around there.

Yeah. And just a quick note, we’re going to be taking the show on the road. We’re going to be filming the Final Four and the final game from circa sportsbook in Las Vegas, Nevada. We’re going to be out there going to a a betting conference called bet bash. And we’re going to be filming from various locations in Vegas final full weekend of course we’ll be updating everyone as we get closer to that. 

All right, well, we got an NBA game we’re looking at tomorrow. Bucks’s heat line just came out looks like the Bucs are a three-and-a-half-point favorite. Why don’t we start with you Dre on this one you you’re a resident Miami Heat analysts he got a chance in this one or what do you think?

they’re on fire guys? They won nine of their last 10 They just dismantled the the second place balls. I mean, you got to take the heat here. i You’re not taking the heat here. We got Tyler here hero BAM out of Iowa. Jimmy Butler. Everyone’s playing great. They look unstoppable right now. In the game. Prior to this bulls games, they combined for 90 points, the big three hero had 27 Jimmy had 27 and bam had 36. 

So I just think with the way the heat are playing right now, why am I going to fade them? I think they’ve covered in their last three games or something like that, or for the last five games. So I’m just gonna stick with the eight here. They can’t lose at the moment and you’re they’re not favored, I think and they beat the Bucks earlier this year, when they were missing when they were missing Jimmy and bam. So um, the bucks. They’ve had the Bucks number this season.

Alright, right. So you like the point? Yeah.

You think he likes the heat in this game? Tommy?

I think he likes the heat. What’s your take on this one? Scott.

I think it’s gonna be an excellent game because I think it’s going to be physical. I think both of these teams want to make a statement. Obviously they’re challenging against each other in this on the Eastern Conference. Obviously Miami right now has got a two game lead that the number one seed, the Bucs are about, I think four or four and a half back from Miami at this point in time. So I think this is going to be an interesting, interesting game. The role plays have been huge. All year for Miami all year they’ve had you know, I think the bench is much stronger than Milwaukee’s bench. 

Obviously, both these teams got excellent players in their starting lineups. But the key factor is is Tyler here all has been something else off the bench. The guys got the I think 25 points on Warren that many games that he’s come off the bench are these the number one number one in the league, coming off the bench and scoring 25 points or more this season. So that’s going to be a key. I liked the game a lot. Milwaukee just came off a big energizing win the other day. So Sowden obviously the heat with that big win and they shut down the Rosen in that game for the first time and his last 10 or 11 games.

 He was averaging 35 points a game, he didn’t even score half that against the heat so they were all over him. So this is going to be an interesting game. I think the line on the game is probably going to go more like four-four and a half than maybe where it is right now. It could go up slightly just because of the big when the Bucs had at the other night blowing out, you know last night so I think maybe that line might creep up a half a point so I like Miami in the game though I gotta go with Dre the Florida Florida bond guy he’s a big you know heat supporter. I think the heater right? They’re playing really well. Like you said nine to one and the last 10 games.

 The matchup I think the role players is going to be key in the game. I think my Andy’s bench is stronger. So I think when push comes to shove, I would take the points I would buy it up to five. If you can get the number up the plus five, take the heat plus the five and get yourself a win, guys. He on the plate.

All right, we both agree with the heat. We’re going to look at two college games for Wednesday. You count looks like Yukons a five and a five point favorite it’s an early number Scott what what’s your take on this one?

Well, obviously UConn is probably the stronger the two teams Creighton was playing extremely well but they ran into a buzzsaw. The other night against Providence never had a shot in that game. Providence just totally manhandled them in that ball game. And I think that, you know, the the top ONDULINE teams seem to find ways to rise to the top. 

I don’t think Creighton is built as strongly on both sides of the ball with the inside penetration. And the outside game like a Yukon is I got to like Yukon in this game. I think Yukon is going to get the job done. I just think that they’re playing just slightly better at this point in time. I know Craig was playing extremely well, they did like a set until they ran into providence and got their butt kicked in the other night. But I think UConn is more consistent of a team, they have more weapons. And I think, again, Caroline, you saying what roughly about five, five

and a half, I’m seeing five right now. But it’s it’s an early number, but you got

a great number, I gotta be honest with you to give credit at home. I don’t think I don’t know if that number is going to open up at 505 and a half. I think that’s a big number. I mean, to give credit, the way they’ve been playing, I think this game is going to be more like a three and a half to four, maybe four and a half point line. 

But I think Yukon is definitely the site in the game because I see them kind of going on one of these little consistent tears and keeping themselves you know, beating the teams below them. You know, I don’t know how the fear against obviously the teams above them that when they go into the Big East Conference, tournaments and stuff like that, but I think UConn will continue their way and they will get the job done, I would probably get this line down guys keep this line at about for under three and a half to four.

 You know you got to buy numbers on these games at this time of the season because they’re not giving anything away from the light, the light set isn’t any dummies and they make sharp numbers, especially on games like this, because he seems to know each other inside and out. So they’re not given any gifts away as far as point spreads on games like this. So I’m going to look to take advantage of numbers and I would take UConn in the game, bring it down about three and a half, four, and take UConn minus the points.

All right, Trey, do you agree with them? Are you looking the other way?

No, I’m right with Scott here. You kind of won five games in a row. And this is a big game for them because if they win, they clinch at least a three-seat in the Big East Tournament. So this is a big game for them. Great. And we know they got killed by Providence who’s already clinched the title for that conference. But um, the Blue Jays actually beat UConn earlier this season 5955 at UConn, so it’s kind of where you kind of gave him 5555 and a half years but I do like UConn. Creighton just lost one of their top scorers I’ve I don’t know how to present or say his last name. It’s like Ryan nem guard or something. He’s averaging over 11 points a game, he hurt himself, he hurt his wrist. He has to undergo wrist surgery. So I think that’s a big loss for them. And I like UConn in this game.

Don’t forget you can play through a week Georgia, Georgetown team the other day so they probably weren’t up for the game even though they won the game by nine. I don’t think they covered the spread in that game. So I don’t think they were really jacked up for that game. But a game like this. I think there’ll be a lot more jacked up because Creighton has been playing well and they do have a winning record. So like I said, I think Kentucky excuse me, Connecticut’s going to come into this game really jacked up and I think it’s gonna be tough for Creighton, keep up with them especially if they started if Connecticut because they got some good outside shooters, and if they start hitting from the outside, it’s gonna make it tough for greatness stay in this game and match wits with UConn so I think like I said, I  don’t think the line on this game is going to be five and a half I could be wrong I think it’s going to be lower. So I’m looking for the value to keep this number on the for, you know, three and a half to four and take you caught.

Alright, we both agree with the Huskies here. Second game up. This is a real good matchup. LSU vs. Arkansas Razorbacks came out five and a half point favorite will go back to you, Dre. What what are you thinking here?

Well, I mean, I gotta take Arkansas here. LSU has lost eight of their last 13 games. I believe they just hit 20 wins on the season, but they’re not playing very well right now. And with the way Arkansas is playing, they’re hot right now. They have won 13 of their last 14 games. And they have beat for ranked teams throughout that little streak for ranked teams. And this kid, I’m sorry, but this kid JD note. I think he’s going to become a March Madness star with the way he’s playing right now. All he’s carrying this team all night, he had like 30 points and eight assists or something like that. I went the way he’s playing. You just have to take Arkansas here, against LSU against a struggling LSU. Team.

Scott, you agree and oh, you’re looking? You’re looking the other way?

Well, you know, it’s funny because you take LSU out of their building, and it’s like you’re taking, you’re taking that they’re good. They go from a varsity team to a JV team on the road at home that dynamite on the road, they can’t find a way out of a paper bag for some reason. You’re playing against an Arkansas team that’s just been finding ways to play with some of the top teams in that conference and in the country. At home. 

They’re playing extremely, extremely well. Again, you know, it’s almost like Dr. Jekyll Mr. Hyde type of game. LSU is a decent team, but they’re not decent on the road. Now you’re coming into a tough building. With this game created a very physical type of game turnovers you know, being caused, I will the number was showing on this as an early indication we’re pulling up on that game was what again, guys

thought five and a half often saw favorite early number, but

I mean, it is a tough number, they put a real tough number on this game at five and a half. I gotta be honest with you, because LSU has enough talent, don’t get me wrong to stay in it, they just don’t play extremely well, they seem like they play three-quarters of the game really close. And all of a sudden, in the last 678 minutes, they’ve been falling apart against some of these better teams, but they playing close all the way through. 

So they do match up. It’s just a question that they go on. I don’t know if they just go on the wall or just you know, they just forget what they’re doing for like a five-minute span than the second half of the game. And it seems like it makes the difference from them covering and covering. But I gotta lie. I have gotta like Arkansas in the game. I’m not big on this game. To be honest with you. I think this game could be close to them what it appears if this line is five and a half full, you know, so because I think LSU has enough talent to stay in the game. But I would probably leave this month’s number it is and I would definitely take Arkansas as a small player. That’s not a big feature play like I like the other games I mentioned. But I would lean towards Arkansas at home just for the simple fact that LSU has had problems on the road, Arkansas playing tremendous at home, they have momentum going into the game, but that is a big number of five and a half. So I’m going to make light play a very light play on Arkansas in this game.

Alright, so you both agree on Arkansas. This is the time of the show where we put out our best bets and then Trey is going to put out an NBA prop. So I’ll go back to you Scott for Wednesday. It could be a game we spoke about or could be any game. What would you say is your best bet for Wednesday night?

I’m going to go with the heat. I think that he got a big shot in that game. I think they’re playing extremely well. I like the role players I like the guys coming off the bench. I just like the way that played. I know they’re not going to have one of the leaders I think in law right he’s still off I think for personal reasons but he was up the other night and they won easily. I think the other players are just picking it up. It just seems like one guy goes down they find another guy to fill in the spots. 

They’re getting a lot of good points you know a lot of good play out in some of these role plays that are coming off the bench. I think it’s going to cause Milwaukee to have some issues once you get past the starting lineups. I think there’s a key bit a key advantage to Miami so I would take Miami and that and I would get that line like I said if you can get that line up to about four and a half to plus five.

 I’d be taking Miami that’s my best bet. I think the heat has a shot actually winning the game, but I would definitely grab the points and make that a big play on Miami Heat for Wednesday night.

All right in the books noted dry who’s your best bet for Wednesday?

I mean, Scott and I are just on point today. I think they win this game. All right. I obviously I’m going to take the spread bigger, but I think that he wins this game. All right with the way they’re playing nine out of 10, I think it’s five in a row now. Just they are cruising through the Eastern Conference. And this is a big week for the heat. I believe they play, they play the Bucs. And then they go and they play the Sixers. And then they have a really big week that the wolves, so I think they eat to find a way to win this game. Actually,

the only thing I’m concerned about in this game is if they get into foul trouble because you’re honest, is gonna start guys to start penetrating to open costs, get some of these Miami key players in foul trouble, which could be a deciding factor in the game. But if the Miami Heat stays out of the foul trouble problems, I think that there’ll be fine in this game.

 But then again, with Yanis, you know, he’s going to penetrate, you know, he’s going to try to cause some, you know, fouls obviously get at a bop BAM in trouble trying to get Butler in trouble and some of these other players by penetrating and you know, some of these players penetrating into the basket holiday, and things like that. So that’s the only thing that I’m scared about. But other than that, I think if everything goes well, I think the Miami Heat is got a shot like Troy says maybe to pull the upset, but I wouldn’t play it on the money line, I would definitely grab the plus four and a half or five.

All right, a Dre you’re a resident prop guy and EMBA gives us a proper two for Wednesday night.

I mean, guys, we’re on fire right now I told you guys to take jobs over and points and he gets his career-high point. So that was not sweating at all. But um, for our last time, but for this one, we’re going to go back to that Miami game. I’m going to take Yanis is over and point Yanis loves playing I we talked about it all the time. Yes loves playing in these big spots.

 I think the heat that the heat is going to take away Middleton and drew all day for the most part, and it’s going to be up to the artist to score points. I think he’s kind of going to be kind of alone in this game. I could see him having like a 35 point 15 Rebound game with only a couple of assists. So I really like Yanis in this game, I think he’s gonna attack.

 He knows that they got he got back on track with that game against the Hornets last night where they destroyed them by 30 plus points. But I think Yanis is going to be penetrating. He’s gonna be he’s gonna be going you know, he needs this when they’re down for games that he they do not want to be with there’s five teams at top of that Eastern Conference that are separated from everyone else. They do not want to be that one team that is not that does not have home court for that first series. So I think Yanis has a big game.
