Top-Two Scorers Go Head-To-Head | Warriors vs Kings | OSB

Golden State Warriors at Sacramento Kings

By Sam Batz

On Friday, April 7th the Sacramento Kings will host reigning NBA Champions, the Golden State Warriors, for their 4th and final matchup of the regular season (10:00 PM EST, NBC Sports/NBA League Pass). The Warriors lead the series 2-1, and average 120.3 points per game against the Kings. Sacramento has beaten Golden State just once, but average 120.0 points per game against their divisional rivals. The Kings are the top-scoring team in the NBA this season, recording 9,706 points, but the Warriors are right behind them with 9,477 points, the second-best total in the league. Friday’s contest will be a highly entertaining, high-scoring affair, loaded with postseason implications.

Golden State Warriors Breakdown

The Warriors have yet to clinch the playoffs and are currently floating between the No. 5 and No. 9 seed in the West. Golden State is 42-38 (52.5%), and are currently in the playoffs as the No. 6 seed, but all that could change in the next few games. Depending on many factors, the Warriors will either move straight through to the playoffs as a top-6 seed, or could fall as low as the No. 9 seed and have to fight their way through the play-in. The Warriors will start their best 5 for this important matchup with the Kings, as Andrew Wiggins is the only player who sees significant playing time, listed as Out. The Warriors went 6-4 in their last 10 games, but struggled mightily on the road, posting a 9-30 away record, the worst of any team not eliminated from the playoffs.

Sacramento Kings Breakdown

The Kings are this year’s comeback kids. After finishing 30-52 last season, Sacramento has turned it around and will finally quench their postseason thirst after a 16 year playoff drought. Sacramento is the No. 3 seed in the West with a 48-32 (60.0%) record. They are 2 games behind the Memphis Grizzlies, and with two games left on the schedule could potentially pass Memphis in the standings, and end the year as the unlikely No. 2 seed in the West. The Kings are the top-ranked offense in the NBA, and are daring to defy the old adage: defense wins championships.

Warriors vs. Kings: Game Changers

Golden State Warriors

  • Steph Curry leads the Warriors with 29.6 points, 6.3 assists, and 6.1 rebounds per game. Curry recorded 34 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds on Tuesday versus OKC
  • Klay Thompson & Jordan Poole are the only other Warriors averaging 20+ points per game. Thompson was sidelined with a back injury on Tuesday and is listed as Day-to-Day
  • Andrew Wiggins is OUT and will not suit up for the Warriors final two regular season games

Sacramento Kings

  • De’Aaron Fox leads the Kings in points per game (25.2) and is the only player to average 20+ points per game
  • Domantas Sabonis leads the NBA with 12.4 rebounds per game (1st) and has the most double-doubles with 65 (8 more than 2nd-place Nikola Jokic)
  • The Sacramento Kings are not suffering any major injuries to any key players

Warriors vs. Kings Prediction

Take the Kings to win on Friday. Golden State is never a safe bet on the road. The Warriors have a win-rate of just 23.1% (9-30) in away games, and when they are the underdogs on the road, which they will be on Friday, it drops to an abysmal 10.5% (2-17). Sacramento still has reason to play their starters, and win 63.3% of the time as favorites at home. I have zero confidence in the Warriors away from The Bay, so I’m going with the Kings on Friday.
