Clippers vs. Thunder History
Both the Clipper and the Thunder have been through several iterations over the course of their existence as NBA franchises. The LA Clippers began as the Buffalo Braves in 1970, then moved to San Diego in 1978 and adopted the name “Clippers”, and finally landed in LA in 1984 where they have been ever since. Similarly, the Thunder were founded under a completely different name in a completely different city, beginning their NBA journey as the Seattle Supersonics in 1967. Then in 2008, after much dispute, the Supersonics moved to Oklahoma City and became the Thunder, where they remain to this day. Over the course of their tumultuous histories, the Clippers and Thunder, under their various name changes, have faced each other 230 times during the regular season, with OKC leading the all-time series 144-86 over the Clippers.
Clipper vs. Thunder Game Predictions
Thursday’s matchup between LA and OKC is going to be a hard-fought battle between two sides vying for the top-spot in the West, but in the end, I like the Thunder’s odds. In this Clippers vs. Thunder head-to-head battle, we’ll see All-Pro talent on both teams, and while the Clippers have the All-Stars of the past, the Thunder are the future. OKC is young, fast, and hungry to prove themselves. Against the Clippers the Thunder have the chance to showcase their potential, and prove their worth as a title contender, and I’m predicting OKC won’t falter under the pressure.
The Clippers sent two players to the All-Star game: Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, while the Thunder sent just one player: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. PG and Kawhi are having typical season’s for players of their caliber, but SGA is the future of the NBA. Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging over 30 points per game, and has quickly become a house-hold name. SGA is smooth, plays the game at his pace, and has the ability to score from anywhere on the court. He’s carried the Thunder all season, and on Thursday, he’ll carry them over the Clippers.
Here are my picks for the Clippers vs. Thunder Thursday night matchup:
- Moneyline Pick: OKC Thunder (-125)
If you take the Thunder’s Moneyline (-125): You risk $125 to win $100, for a total payout of $225, if the Thunder win straight up.
- ATS Pick: OKC Thunder (-2)
If you take the Thunder to Cover the -2.0 Spread (-110): You risk $110 to win $100, for a total payout of $210, if the Thunder win the game by at least 2 points.
- O/U Pick: Over (237.5)
If you take the Over on 237.5 total points (-110): You risk $110 to win $100, for a total payout of $210, if the Clippers and Thunder combine for at least 238 points.
