Matchup: Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Minnesota Timberwolves

The NBA season continues this weekend with a must-watch matchup between the two best teams in the West, the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Timberwolves are leading the conference at 30-11, but the Thunder are right behind them at 28-13 with a chance to close the gap on Saturday. This is the third meeting of the season between OKC and Minnesota, and the series is currently tied 1-1. Minnesota won the first (106-103) and OKC won the second (129-106), and yes, somehow the TImberwolves managed to score 106 points in both games. The Thunder are coming off a big win over the red-hot Utah Jazz, which ended Utah’s 6-game win streak, while the Timberwolves are on a hot-streak themselves with 4-straight wins.

The Timberwolves get home court advantage, where they are 17-2 (win-rate: 89.5%), giving Minnesota a huge advantage. OKC is 12-8 on the road (win-rate: 60%) , which isn’t bad, but the Timberwolves have only lost once in their last 10 home games. As a result, Minnesota is a 2.5 point favorite over Oklahoma City. The Wolves are 26-5 (win-rate: 83.9%) as favorites, while the Thunder are 8-7 (win-rate: 53.3%) as underdogs. Clearly, one side has a leg up on the other.

Thunder vs. Timberwolves Game Predictions

In the battle for the top-spot in the Western Conference, I’m going with the Minnesota Timberwolves. It’ll be a close game, but Minnesota is more well-rounded and will maintain their supremacy of the West. Plus, the Timberwolves have only lost twice at home, while the Thunder went 5-5 in their last 10 road games. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (31.0 points, 6.3 assists, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.2 steals per game) is playing phenomenal basketball, inserting himself into the MVP conversation, but the Timberwolves don’t rely on just one player to win, they play team basketball. Anthony Edwards (26.1 points) and Karl-Anthony Towns (21.6 points) are leading the charge for Minnesota, but everyone on Minnesota’s roster has contributed to the team’s success, and the Timberwolves will solidify their position atop the West with a win over OKC.

Moneyline Pick: Minnesota Timberwolves (-140)

ATS Pick: Minnesota Timberwolves (-2.5)

O/U Pick: Over (230.5)
