Matchup: LA Lakers vs. Atlanta Hawks

The NBA season continues with a cross-conference matchup between the Wests LA Lakers and the Easts Atlanta Hawks. The Lakers are 9th in the West at 24-23, while the Hawks are 10th in the East at 19-27. The odds are pending, and please check back with OSB for the latest, but the Lakers are the presumed favorites, despite Atalanta having home court advantage. The Hawks are 9-13 (40.9%) at home, while the Lakers are 7-15 (31.8%) on the road. Lebron James and Anthony Davis are currently listed as questionable, and their status is worth monitoring, as James and Davis each average 25.0 points per game, and without them, Atlanta’s odds would improve greatly.

Lakers vs. Hawks Game Predictions

The injuries to Lebron and AD are reportedly “not too serious” and they are both trending in the right direction. With that in mind, it would be wise to monitor their status, but if James and Davis are a go, then I like the LA Lakers in this one. The Lakers have seen an offensive explosion recently, scoring 120+ in 4 of their last 6, including back-to-back 140+ point performances. The Atlanta Hawks have one of the worst defensive units in the NBA, allowing 123.3 opponent points per game. Atlanta can score though, averaging 121.6 points per game at home, which is why I also like the Over

If both teams are healthy, this will be a high-scoring matchup, but the Lakers will win. The Hawks don’t have anyone who can stop AD down low, and with the recent improvements from D’Angelo Russell, who’s averaged 27.5 points in his last 8, which includes two 30+ point performances, the Lakers Big 3 of D-Lo, AD, and LBJ is finally coming together. Atlanta’s Trae Young is back after suffering a concussion, and while Young’s 27.0 points per game has been a highlight, the Hawks are giving up too many points. In their last 4 matchups, Atlanta allowed an embarrassing 132.3 opponent points per game. With the way LA is shooting, the Hawks porous defense will have little effect on the Lakers ability to score.
