St. Louis Cardinals at Texas Rangers: Analysis, Prediction, and Betting Tips

Sam Batz

cardinals vs rangers

The MLB regular season continues on Tuesday, June 6th with the St. Louis Cardinals taking on the Texas Rangers in a rare NL versus AL matchup (8:05 PM EST, Bally Sports/MLB Extra Innings). The Cardinals and Rangers played their first matchup in June of 2004, and since then, have played just 12 regular season games against one another. The Rangers lead the series 9-3 over the Cardinals, but Texas and St. Louis haven’t faced each other since May of 2019. The Cardinals and Rangers are on vastly different trajectories, with St. Louis on the decline and Texas on the rise. The Rangers are priced at -145 for Tuesday’s, and as the best batters in baseball, Texas is fully expected to beat St. Louis.

The St. Louis Cardinals (+1.5; ML +120)

The St. Louis Cardinals are one of the oldest and most decorated teams in Major League Baseball. Established in 1892, the Cardinals didn’t see the playoffs until 1926, the same year they won their first World Series. The St. Louis Cardinals now have 11 championship titles to date, and have made 19 World Series appearances. Despite their historic success, the Cardinals are in a downward spiral this year, and at 25-35 (41.7%), St. Louis will be hard-pressed to make the playoffs. They are last in the NL Central, last in the National League, and 28th in the MLB. The Cardinals went 3-7 in their last 10 games, and against an offensive powerhouse like Texas, St. Louis’ struggles are likely to continue.

The Texas Rangers (-1.5; ML -145)

After going 8-2 in their last 10 games, the Texas Rangers are now just 3 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays for the best-record in the MLB. Texas is 38-20 (65.5%) and is 1st in the AL West, 2nd in the American League, and 2nd in the MLB. The Rangers bats have exploded this year, and Texas now leads the league with the most runs (376), hits (563), and RBIs (362). The Rangers also have the best batting average (.278), the best run differential (+152), and the 3rd-fewest runs against (224). The Texas Rangers are coming off a clean sweep of the Seattle Mariners (3-0), where they scored 30 runs in 3 games, and will look to stay hot against the floundering St. Louis Cardinals.

Cardinals vs. Rangers Prediction

Take the Rangers to beat the Cardinals on Tuesday, June 6th. The Cardinals probable starting pitcher, Matthew Liberatore, is 1-1 with a 4.91 ERA, but has only thrown 11 innings. Liberatore and the Cardinals will be up against the best offense in the MLB, and their starting pitchers inexperience this season will be a liability. Texas averages 6.48 runs per game, the most in the league, and against a Cardinals defense giving up 4.25 runs per game, the Rangers will dominate. Historically, the Rangers have had St. Louis’ number, and this year won’t be any different, as Texas prepares to roll over the Cardinals on Tuesday.

Prediction: Texas Rangers Moneyline (-145)
