Indiana Pacers vs. New York Knicks
By Sam Batz
The Indiana Pacers will travel to the Big Apple on Wednesday, Jan. 11th to take on the New York Knicks in the famed Madison Square Garden. The Pacers are coming off back-to-back wins at home but will be on the road, where they are 8-11, versus the Knicks. New York lost to Milwaukee 111-107 at home on Monday, giving them a 10-11 record in Madison Square Garden this season. The Knicks will look to get back to .500 at home while the Pacers will look to extend their winning streak to three-straight.
The Indiana Pacers are the 6th seed in the East at 23-18. They have won 8 of their last 10 games, scoring an average of 118.8 points per game and allowing 115.6 to the opposition. Point Guard Tyrese Haliburton leads the Pacers on offense with 20.3 points and 10.3 assists per game. Haliburton has recorded 22 double-doubles thus far and is leading the league in total assists with 402 through 39 games played for the Pacers. Haliburton is also in a three-way tie for second place in steals with 69 (1.8 per game). Additionally, Myles Turner, Bennedict Mathurin, and Buddy Hield are all averaging 17.0 points or more for the Pacers and will all look to make an impact in their matchup with New York.
The Knicks are the 7th seed in the East with a 22-19 record, just one game behind the Pacers. New York went 9-6 in the month of December, recording their longest winning streak of the season with 8 straight wins from Dec. 4th to Dec. 20th. Unfortunately, the Knicks then followed that up with a five-game losing streak. Consistency has been an issue for New York this year. They are 4-6 in their last 10 games, averaging just 111.7 points. Julius Randle has played well for the Knicks, averaging a team high 24.4 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. Randle is complemented by Guards Jalen Brunson and RJ Barrett, who are averaging 21.6 and 19.7 points respectively. Barrett is questionable for Wednesday’s because of a finger injury, and will be sorely missed by New York if he can’t go against the Pacers.

Pacers vs. Knicks All-Time Series
The Pacers and the Knicks have played a total of 189 regular season games against each other. It is a tight race, but the Knicks have a slight advantage with 97 wins compared to the Pacers 92. New York and Indiana have already faced each other once this season. It was a close game, but the Knicks squeaked out of the win, beating the Pacers 109-106 in Indiana. On Wednesday, the Pacers travel to New York in what should be another exciting installment of the New York vs. Indiana saga.
Key To The Game: Can New York’s Defense Slow Indiana Down?
New York has allowed an average of 110.2 points per game to their opponents in their last 10 games. Indiana has scored an average of 118.8 points in their last 10. Indiana’s three-headed monster, that is Haliburton, Hield, and Turner, has been difficult to quell. Together, Indiana’s big-three have combined for 44.8% of the teams points, 51.1% of the teams assists, and 36.6% of the teams rebounds. Yet the Pacers are the 14th ranked offense, and 15th in offensive efficiency. The Pacers don’t have many options outside of these three, and New York will focus a majority of their defensive efforts toward keeping Haliburton, Hield, and Turner bottled-up.
Prediction
It will be a great game between the Eastern Conference’s 6th and 7th seeds. It was just a three-point difference the last time New York and Indiana faced-off, and I expect this one to follow a similar path. The Knicks narrowly took the victory last time they played the Pacers, but I predict Indiana will take the win this time around. Teams love playing in Madison Square and Indiana will be out for revenge after dropping the last game in their series with New York. The Pacers have won two-consecutive games and are playing extremely well on offense. The Knicks could be missing a key player in RJ Barrett against the Pacers, which would give Indiana the edge in this one.
Prediction: Indiana Pacers Moneyline and the Over. Final score: Pacers 118 – Knicks 112
