Sixers Are Out For Revenge Against The Magic | Magic vs 76ers | OSB
Orlando Magic at Philadelphia 76ers
By Sam Batz
For the second game of a back-to-back, the Orlando Magic will once again take on the Philadelphia 76ers. The two sides faced each other on Monday, Jan. 30th and will play again on Wednesday, Feb. 1st in Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center. Monday’s matchup ended in a shocking upset when the Magic took down the Sixers 119-109. The Sixers were -10 point favorites and with -500 odds to win the game. Not only that, but the Magic snapped Philadelphia’s seven game winning streak. It was a huge win for Orlando, and a devastating loss for Philadelphia.
The Magic are now 20-31 after beating the Sixers but remain the 13th seed in the East. They can feel good about the win on Monday but have little to no chance of seeing the postseason. Orlando’s chances to win the Southeast Division (+15000), the Eastern Conference Title (+40000), and the NBA Finals (+100000), remain virtually out of reach. They will have gained some confidence, especially their younger players, after beating a top-tier team like Philadelphia, but it won’t be enough to turn their season around. Paolo Banchero led the Magic against the Sixers with 29 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists, followed by Franz Wager, who recorded 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. Markelle Fultz also had a good game, recording his first double-double of the season (eighth of his career) with 12 points, 10 assists, and 2 rebounds. The Magic are now looking to shock the world again with another upset victory over the 76ers in Philadelphia.
The Sixers are now 32-17 after the unexpected loss to Orlando on Monday, and have fallen to 3rd in the East, 0.5 a game behind the 2nd place Bucks, and 3.0 games behind the 1st place Celtics. Monday’s game was disappointing, to say the least, as the Sixers entered the contest with the longest current winning streak in the league. However, they failed to secure their eight-straight victory, and the title of longest winning streak now belongs to the Washington Wizards (W6). Joel Embiid did his best to win the game for the Sixers, recording 30 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 assists. Unfortunately, teammate James Harden, who is averaging 21.3 points per game, scored just 17 points to go along with his 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Moreover, Sixers point guard, Tyrese Maxey (averages 20.6 points per game), grossly under performed, recording a measly 8 points, 1 rebound, and 2 assists.
Magic vs. 76ers All-Time & Season Series
After Monday’s game, the Orlando Magic and Philadelphia 76ers have now played a total of 128 regular season games. Orlando picked up their 80th win over the Sixers, breaking a 10 game losing streak against Philadelphia in the process. The Sixers remain at 48 wins over the Magic, but will try to win the season series 3-1 in the last matchup of the season with Orlando.
The Magic are averaging 107.0 points per game against the Sixers, while Philadelphia is averaging 116.3 points against Orlando. The Magic have scored 119 or more points in just 21.5% of their games this season, while the Sixers have scored 109 or fewer points in just 24.5% of their games. Monday’s upset was truly an astonishing feat for Orlando, but they are against the odds to repeat that performance on Wednesday.

Prediction
I would take the 76ers in this repeat matchup. They will be out for blood after losing to the Magic and dropping a spot in the Eastern Conference standings. Philadelphia just needs to keep their focus through all four quarters in order to win. The Sixers started Monday’s game out strong, outscoring Orlando 30-17 in the first quarter, but then got complacent and took their foot off the gas. Orlando then went off for 42 points in the third quarter, subsequently holding the Sixers to just 19 points in the fourth. I don’t see that happening again.
I expect the Magic will come out hot, brimming with the confidence of beating the Sixers on their home court, but will soon fall victim to Philadelphia’s staunch defense. Embiid will remain the Sixers best option, while Harden and Maxey will have much better performances. The Sixers must also limit the turnovers. They had 19 on Monday and are 1-4 when committing 19+ turnovers this season. Orlando is the away side but they didn’t need to travel, as they could just stay in Philadelphia after Monday’s game, so they will be fresh and enter the game ready to play hard. However, if the Sixers take this one seriously and feed Embiid as much as possible, they will win this game.
Prediction: Philadelphia 76ers Cover and the Over.
