Ok, let’s get to our Portland vs Golden State prediction.
Currently it’s tough times for the Trailblazers who have lost six of their last seven games, including four straight road games, to fall to 11-14 overall while the Warriors remain red-hot, winning eight of their last 10 and 20 out of 24 games overall to start the season.
This is the second match-up between these two teams this season. Back on November 26th, Portland lost to Golden State on this same floor, 118-103, as a 6.5-point dog, so you can see how badly the Trailblazers have fallen off since that game as the line tonight has almost doubled.
Typically, we would love to jump in and take advantage of an inflated point spread like this, but we simply can not back the Trailblazers right now. You can’t ignore the fact that the team is 1-10 this season against the spread on the road and has been an absolute money eater when listed as an underdog, going 0-7 ATS this season when catching points.
So, instead of playing the side in the game, let’s take a look at the over/under. In that first meeting a couple weeks ago, these two teams combined to score 221 points, but in order to that high, the Warriors had to shoot a lights-out 54 percent from the floor, hoist 32 three-pointers and pound the paint for 64 points. All of those numbers are way above the average for Golden State, and we don’t see that being replicated tonight so we’re going to side with the under.
The Warriors are 5-11 to the under this year when listed as a home favorite and have also gone under in 10 out of 13 games this season against fellow Western Conference foes. The reason for all of these unders is that the Warriors are the Number 1 ranked defensive team in the league and have held nine of their last 10 opponents to 104 points or less.
Points are going to be hard to come by for the Trailblazers tonight, but instead of laying the inflated pointspread, we’ll come in and go under the total of 219 in this Trailblazers vs Warriors game tonight.
