Matchup: Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Portland Trail Blazers
For the second game in-a-row, the Minnesota Timberwolves will take on the Portland Trail Blazers. Minnesota beat Portland 121-109 on Tuesday in the first game of their back-to-back. Portland will look to snag their first win of the season against the Timberwolves, but as the No. 1 team in the West, Minnesota is tough to take down. The Blazers are 14th in the West, 22.5 games behind the T-Wolves, making Portland a heavy underdog. Overcoming the odds seems increasingly unlikely for the Trail Blazers, as Portland has no momentum after losing 5-straight, and Minnesota is riding high on a 3-game winning streak.

Timberwolves vs. Trail Blazers History
The series between Minnesota and Portland began in 1989, and since then the Timberwolves and Blazers have faced each other 4-times every season. Thursday marks the 134th all-time regular season meeting between the Timberwolves and Trail Blazers. The T-wolves currently hold a 2-game win streak over the Blazers, but Portland has dominated the series as a whole, posting a 90-43 record over Minnesota. However, the Timberwolves have flipped the script, and as the current No. 1 in the Western Conference, Minnesota is likely to snag their 3rd-straight win over the Portland Trail Blazers.
Timberwolves vs. Trail Blazers Game Predictions
The Trail Blazers don’t match up well against the Timberwolves, so I’m taking Minnesota to cover, as well as the Timberwolves moneyline. It’s simple, the Blazers can’t score and the Timberwolves play great defense. It’s a brutal combination for Portland, as they’ll have a tough hill to climb with the Timberwolves on their heels. Minnesota proved their supremacy over Portland on Tuesday, when they beat the Blazers 121-109, and I’m expecting a similar result on Thursday.
Minnesota is led by Anthony Edwards, who’s averaging 26.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.2 assists, and 1.2 steals per game, and dropped 41 points on the Blazers. Karl-Anthony Towns (22.5 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 2.9 assists) and Rudy Gobert (13.8 points, 12.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 2.1 blocks) protect Minnesota’s rim, and are the champions of the Western Conference’s best defense. The Blazers average a lowly 108.2 points per game, making it severely unlikely that Portland will break Minnesota’s staunch defense. Anfernee Simons and Jerami Grant are averaging 23.3 and 21.7 points per game respectively, but beyond those two, the Blazers offense is stale and uninspiring.
So here are my picks for the Timberwolves vs. Trail Blazers Thursday night matchup:
- Moneyline Pick: Minnesota Timberwolves (-470)
If you take the Timberwolves Moneyline (-470): You risk $470 to win $100, for a total payout of $570, if the Timberwolves straight up.
- ATS Pick: Minnesota Timberwolves (-9.5)
If you take the Timberwolves to Cover the -9.5 Point Spread (-110): You risk $110 to win $100, for a total payout of $210, if the Timberwolves win the game by at least 10 points.
- O/U Pick: Over (216.5)
If you take the Over on 216.5 total points (-110): You risk $110 to win $100, for a total payout of $210, if the Timberwolves and Blazers combine for at least 217 points.
