Pistons Struggle with 13-70 Record, Nets Shine with 39% Three-Point Shooting

Detroit Pistons Struggle with 13-70 Record; Brooklyn Nets Shine with 39% Three-Point Shooting

The Detroit Pistons will take on the Brooklyn Nets this Sunday in an exciting NBA Eastern Conference clash at Barclays Center. The game is set to tip off at 3:30 p.m. ET, and the Nets enter as three-point favorites, with a total score line set at 219 points.

Detroit’s Ongoing Struggles

After suffering a lopsided 128-98 defeat against the New York Knicks on Friday, the Pistons have struggled to find their footing, now holding a dismal record of 1-5 SU (straight-up) and 3-3 ATS (against the spread). In that recent matchup, despite shooting 50.6% from the field, Detroit committed 22 turnovers, leading to 30 points for the Knicks. They also struggled from beyond the arc, hitting only 11 of 34 attempts.

Cade Cunningham emerged as the team’s standout player, scoring 22 points and contributing six rebounds and assists. However, Detroit’s lack of consistency has been evident; they are currently 13-70 SU over their last 83 games, underscoring a stark need for improvement.

Although the Pistons are off to a rocky start, they have faced a daunting schedule that includes tough teams like the Indiana Pacers, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Philadelphia 76ers. New acquisitions like Tobias Harris (17.2 PPG) and Tim Hardaway Jr. (14.4 PPG) aim to bolster the roster after a disappointing previous season, during which Detroit only secured 14 wins.

The Pistons currently rank 27th in NET rating and have the league’s 26th best offensive and defensive ratings. They’ll need to tighten up on both ends of the court to turn their season around.

Brooklyn Nets Find Their Groove

In contrast, the Brooklyn Nets are displaying a surprising level of competitiveness with a 3-3 SU record and a notable 5-1 ATS record early in the season. They secured a 120-112 victory against the Chicago Bulls on Friday, demonstrating their strength in the paint by outscoring Chicago 66-40. While the Nets struggled with their three-point shooting (30.6% from beyond the arc), they compensated with effective ball movement, recording 34 assists.

Cam Thomas has emerged as a dynamic scorer for Brooklyn, leading the team with 32 points against the Bulls. Last season, he averaged 22.5 points per game and shot 36.4% from three. The Nets heavily rely on three-point shooting, averaging 42.3 attempts this season, the fifth most in the league.

Defensively, Brooklyn has also held its ground, allowing just 18.3 points per game over their last seven outings. However, they still rank 21st in NET rating, indicating room for growth, especially on defense where they are 19th.

Conclusion

Historically, the Nets have had the upper hand in their matchups against the Pistons, winning two of three last season. However, Detroit managed to cover the spread in all three games. The over has been a consistent outcome in recent meetings, hitting in 9 of the last 10 contests between these two teams.
