New Look Blazers Open Season Against Clippers
The Portland Trail Blazers made some big moves this offseason and now look like a brand new team. Long time Blazer Damian Lillard joined the Milwaukee Bucks after 11 seasons in Portland. Lillard is the Trail Blazers all-time leading scorer (19,376 points), and will surely be missed in Rip City. With Lillard gone, the Blazers had some room, both on the roster and in the budget, to add some fresh faces. 2018’s No. 1 draft pick Deandre Ayton is now a Blazer, along with Celtics stars Robert Williams and Malcolm Brogdon. Portland also drafted rookie sensation Scoot Henderson as the No. 3 overall pick in this year’s draft. Anfernee Simons and Jerami Grant return as the only starters from last year’s Trail Blazer lineup.
Portland takes on the LA Clippers in their season opener, and despite the newly acquired talent, the Blazers need time to work out the chemistry. I like the LA Clippers in this one. LA has two of the NBA’s best players in Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, not to mention the versatile Russell Westbrook. The Clippers “big 3”, consistenting of George (33), Leonard (32), and Westbrook (34), have a combined age of 99 years, and this could be the Clippers last chance at a title, so they’ll want to get off to a good start. For the Trail Blazers, it will take time for the team to gel, and against the highly experienced LA Clippers, Portland will struggle.
So for our Trail Blazers vs. Clippers expert pick, take the LA Clippers to Cover (-9.5) on Wednesday.
