Matchup: Dallas Mavericks vs. Cleveland Cavaliers
The NBA regular season continues with a top-notch matchup between two postseason hopefuls. In one corner we have the Dallas Mavericks, and in the other we have the Cleveland Cavaliers. Dallas is 8th in the tightly contested Western Conference, but with the West as close as it is, the Mavs are just half a game out of the top-6. Cleveland on the other hand is 2nd in the East, 7 and half games back from first, but comfortably in the top-6. Of course, a top-6 spot is a coveted position, as it guarantees not only a playoff spot, but the avoidance of the play-in tournament. Both Dallas and Cleveland are expected to reach the postseason, but with 20+ games left on the schedule for either side, no one is safe just yet.
This Tuesday the Cavs and MAvs will go head-to-head in a must-watch cross-conference showdown. Continue reading to find our picks for the game, including stats, scores, and betting advice. Mavericks vs. Cavaliers History
The Mavs and Cavs have met 84 times over the course of their 44 year history. Beginning in 1980, the Dallas Mavericks and the Cleveland Cavaliers are slated to face each other twice a season. Cleveland leads the series with a 44-40 record over Dallas, but overall it’s been a relatively even series. This Tuesday marks the 85th all-time meeting. The Cavs will look to widen the gap between them and the Mavericks, while Dallas is hoping to snap Clevealnd’s current 3-game win streak against them.
Mavericks vs. Cavaliers Game Predictions
I’m expecting a close game here. In their first game this season, the Cavs walked away with a 113-110 win over the Mavs, but it was a hard-fought game between evenly matched teams. Cleveland is the favorite, as they have a better record (4.5 games up on Dallas) as well as home court advantage. The Cavs are 19-10 at home, and 17-6 as favorites at home, so I’m going with Cleveland to win the game and Dallas to cover the spread.
Luka Doncic runs the show in Dallas, averaging an NBA best 34.5 points per game, and he alone will keep the Mavs close. But along with Kyrie Irving, Luka’s right-hand man, Dallas has a real shot at the upset. Over the last 5 games, Doncic and Irving averaged a combined 60.4 points per game, propelling the Mavericks to a 4-1 record over that same stretch. However, Dallas’ dynamic duo will be up against one of the NBA’s premier defensive units. Cleveland is allowing just 109.2 opponent points per game, 1st in the East and 2nd in the NBA, and with Donovan Mitchell on the floor this time around (Mitchell missed the first matchup against Dallas) Cleveland will narrowly sneak away with the win.
To summarize, these are my picks for the Mavericks vs. Cavaliers Tuesday night matchup:
- Moneyline Pick: Cleveland Cavaliers
If you take the Cavaliers Moneyline (-148): You risk $148 to win $100, for a total payout of $248, if the Cavs win straight up.
- ATS Pick: Dallas Mavericks
If you take the Mavericks to Cover the +3.0 Spread (-110): You risk $110 to win $100, for a total payout of $210, if the Mavs win the game, or lose by less than 3 points.
- O/U Pick: Under
If you take the Over on 234 total points (-110): You risk $110 to win $100, for a total payout of $210, if the Mavs and Cavs combine for less than 234 points.
