By Sam Batz
When: Wednesday, April 24th at 7:00 PM EST
Where: TD Garden, Boston, MA
Watch On: TNT/ESPN2/NBC Sports
Matchup: Miami Heat vs. Boston Celtics
The Heat did not do well without Jimmy Butler, losing by 20 points to the Boston Celtics in Game 1 of their first round series. Boston was a 14-point favorite entering Game 1, and are now a 14.5-point favorite in Game 2. The Celtics dominance was absolute in the series opener, and Miami had no way of stopping Boston. The Celtics made 22 threes (22/49) and shot 47.6% from the field, and held the Heat to just 94 points. Miami needs to make some serious adjustments, or this series will be over quickly.

Heat vs. Celtics Head-to-Head History
Regular & Post Season Games: 174 (1988-2024)
All-time Series: Heat: 73 wins; Celtics: 101 wins
Season Series: Celtics 3-0
Playoff Series: Celtics 1-0
Wednesday’s matchup will be the 175th game between the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat. The Celtics have of course dominated the series, posting 28 more wins than the Heat, but Miami can point to last year’s Eastern Conference Finals if the Celtics ever talk trash. This season though the Celtics have had the Heat’s number. Boston swept the regular season series 3-0, and would love nothing more than to sweep Miami in the playoffs as well. Revenge can be a powerful motivator.
Heat vs. Celtics Best Player Prop
Bam Adebayo; Over 0.5 threes (+123)
It may sound ridiculous, but I’m betting on Bam Adebayo to hit at least one three-point shot against the Celtics in Game 2. Bam is not a three-point shooter, but this season he attempted more threes than the past 4 years combined. Bam went 15-42 (35.7%) from beyond the arc, attempted two 3-point shots in Game 1, and could see more long-range opportunities as Miami gets desperate. Boston won’t bother guarding Bam that far out, and I’m banking on the big man drilling at least one three in retaliation. The value on Adebayo’s three point player prop is a great value, and I’m taking the over.
Heat vs. Celtics Prediction
Take the Boston Celtics moneyline (-1400) and the Miami Heat to cover (+14.5). The Heat will be hard pressed to win a game without Jimmy Butler, but as Boston gets more comfortable, Miami’s opportunity to strike grows. The Heat won’t win Game 2, but they won’t lose by 20-points either. A 10 to 12 points loss seems entirely possible, especially if Boston has a large lead and decides to pull their starters.
Home court advantage is huge for the Celtics. Boston went 37-4 (90.2%) in TD Garden, and won 80% of their games when favored, while Miami went 11-25 (30.6%) as underdogs. Simply put, the Heat are outmatched in this series. In Game 1, Jayson Tatum recorded his first triple-double of the season (23 pts, 10 ast, 10 reb), and the Celtics saw 6 total players with double-digit scoring figures. Miami needs a perfect game to beat Boston, but the odds are almost insurmountable.
