On Wednesday, April 26th the Los Angeles Lakers travel back to Tennessee to face the Memphis Grizzlies in a pivotal Game 5 showdown (7:30 PM EST, TNT). The No. 7 seed Lakers are up 3-1 over the No. 2 seed Grizzlies, and Los Angeles could become the first play-in team to get past the First Round. Memphis looked shell shocked after the loss in Game 4, but their defense has not been able to slow down LA. Now, in order to advance, the Grizzlies will need to force a Game 7. The Lakers are +4 point underdogs for Game 5, and their moneyline is priced at +140, while the Grizzlies, despite being down 2 games, are -4 points favorites with a moneyline priced at -170.

The Los Angeles Lakers (+4; ML +140)

The LA Lakers have caught fire at the perfect time. After a slow start to the season, it was looking like the Lakers would miss the playoffs for a second straight season. But Lebron James doesn’t miss the playoffs. He willed his team into the postseason, and after some midseason trades, the Lakers were back to their winning ways. In Game 4, Lebron recorded his first ever 20-20 line, securing 20 rebounds to go along with 22 points, and made the final basket of regulation to send the game to OT. The Lakers dominated in OT, securing the 3-1 series lead, and now have a 88% chance to make it to the Conference Semifinals.

The Memphis Grizzlies (-4; ML -170)

After an fantastic regular season that saw the Grizzlies secure the No. 2 seed in the West for the 2nd straight year, Memphis has imploded in the playoffs. It was a tough draw getting the Lakers in the First Round, and after Memphis lost Game 1, it was clear this would be a competitive series. Few teams have recovered from being down 1-3 in the playoffs, but the Grizzlies will be thankful to be back home where they won 85.4% of their games this season. They are expected to win Game 5, however, they need to win three-in-a-row in order to move on, and based on how they’ve played this series, it’s not looking good. The Grizzlies have a 12% chance to see the next round, and if they lose in Game 5, it would be their 6th First Round exit in their last 10 postseason appearances.

Lakers vs. Grizzlies: Player Props

Austin Reaves (Lakers Shooting Guard): Over 1.5 3-Pointers Made (+110)

Amazingly, it wasn’t Lebron James, Anthony Davis, or D’Angelo Russell that led the Lakers in scoring in Game 4. It was Austin Reaves with 23 points. Reaves has emerged as one of LA’s most important players, averaging 17.8 points per game and shooting 49% from the field against Memphis. Reaves has drained 1.8 three-pointers per game in the postseason, shooting 41.2% from beyond the arc, and I expect him to go over 1.5 3-pointers made in Game 5.

Desmond Bane (Grizzlies Shooting Guard): Over 24.5 Points (-110)

The Grizzlies star player, Ja Morant, was clearly shaken up in Game 4 because of his hand injury. As a result, Desmond Bane led Memphis in scoring. Bane recorded 36 points in Game 4, a postseason high for the 24-year old Shooting Guard, and is averaging 23.3 points per game against the Lakers. But again, with Ja nursing that hand, it will be up to Bane to led the Grizzlies in Game 5, and I expect him to go over 24.5 points.

Lakers vs. Grizzlies Game 5 Prediction

Take the Memphis Grizzlies to win Game 5. They might not have the best odds to win the series, but they are still a great team, especially at home. During the regular season, Memphis lost just 6 games at home, and will have the fire of potential elimination pushing them forward. Both teams are banged up, and other than Lebron James, neither team has much playoff experience. That doesn’t help the Grizzlies, and Game 5 will be another hard-fought, physical matchup, but with their fans at their back, Memphis will win their second game of the series.

Prediction: Memphis Grizzlies Moneyline (-170)
