Golden State Warriors at Los Angeles Lakers: Conference Semifinal Game 3 Prediction, Player Props, & Betting Tips
By Sam Batz
Game 3 of the Western Conference Semifinals between the Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Lakers tips-off on Saturday, May 6th (5:30 PM PST, ABC). The series is all tied up 1-1 after the Warriors smoked the Lakers in Game 2. It was an embarrassing outing for Los Angeles, who lost 100-127 on the road after an impressive Game 1 victory. Both sides have a plethora of postseason experience, and I wouldn’t be shocked if the series is decided in Game 7. As fans, that would be an amazing game to watch, but neither the Lakers nor the Warriors will want the series to go that far, and on Saturday, LA will look to keep their undefeated home record intact, while the Warriors are looking to steal a game on the road.
The Golden State Warriors (+3; ML +125)
No other team has been more successful in the postseason than the Golden State Warriors. Since 2015, the Warriors have collected 4 rings and were in the Finals 6 times. They are led by the unshakable Steph Curry, who is arguably the greatest 3-point shooter in NBA history, and is averaging 31.4 points per game this postseason. But in Game 2, it was Klay Thompson who led the Warriors, sinking an incredible 8 of 11 3-pointers, and recording 30-points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist. The Lakers have had their hands full with Golden State’s outside shooters, and even though their turnover issues continued in Game 2, the Warriors still blew LA out of the water, a promising sign for Golden State.
The Los Angeles Lakers (-3; ML -150)
The Lakers came into Chase Center in Game 1 and showed the Warriors who’s boss, beating them at home, something not many teams were able to do this season. Unfortunately, the good time did not last, and the Lakers followed-up their Game 1 victory with a 27-point blowout loss. It was a humbling result for an LA side who thought they could win back-to-back games in the hostile environment that is the Chase Center. The Lakers are led by the NBA’s all-time scoring leader, Lebron James, who is averaging 22.3 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game. Anthony Davis, who had a monster Game 1, recorded just 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists on Thursday, and will need to have another big game if the Lakers are going to take the lead in this series.

Warriors vs. Lakers: Player Props
Jordan Poole (Warriors Shooting Guard): Over 14.5 Points (-105)
JP3 is averaging 12.3 points per game for the Warriors in the playoffs, but in Game 2, Poole recorded 6 points. He went 50.0% from the field, but only took 6 shots, and played just 16 minutes. He hit 6 3-pointers and recorded 21 points in Game 1, proving he is capable of scoring, but wasn’t much of a factor in the Warriors blowout victory. Regardless, doesn’t seem like a player content with that type of performance, and will bounce back in Game 3 with over 14.5 points.
Austin Reaves (Lakers Shooting Guard): Over 1.5 3-Pointers Made (-125)
Austin Reaves has quietly become one of the Lakers most important players. Averaging 14.5 points per game, the 24-year old Reaves is having a decent postseason debut. He’s hit over 1.5 3-pointers in 50% of the Lakers postseason games, and against a Warriors defense giving up 11.2 3’s per game, I predict Reaves goes over 1.5 3-pointers made in Game 3.
Warriors vs. Lakers Game 3 Prediction
Take the LA Lakers to win Game 3. According to ESPN Analytics, the Lakers have a 59.4% chance to win. The Warriors do not travel well, winning just 26.8% of their road games during the regular season. The Lakers have yet to lose at home in the playoffs, and will come out strong looking to redeem themselves after their horrendous Game 2 performance. Both teams are shooting around 45% from the field, so it should be a high-scoring, tightly contested matchup, but I’d take the Lakers to pull off the win.
Prediction: Los Angeles Lakers Moneyline (-150)
