This game tips off tonight at 10 P.M. Eastern time at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, where the Lakers have now won two in a row after suffering through a rare four-game losing streak, while the red-hot Suns come to LA just two games behind the Lakers in the Pacific Division standings after winning five of their last six games and 14 of their last 17, dating back to late January.

Now, if you watched our free pick videos here last week, we had three selections in games involving the Lakers and we won all three, cashing in on the under in LA’s games against the Jazz and Trailblazers and then on Sunday night we laid the points with Lakers against the Warriors and they cruised to an easy 117-91 victory. Tonight we are going to go back to the well and ride with the Lakers minus the points again.
Look, there is no doubt the Suns are playing some great basketball. In fact, dating back to the beginning of Bubble Play last season, Phoenix has been one of the more consistent teams in the league and they are a legit threat to beat out both the Lakers and Clippers in the race for the Pacific Division title.
But from an Xs and Os standpoint, I see this is a really bad matchup for Phoenix. The Suns rank Number 4 in the NBA in scoring defense and much of that ranking has to do with the fact that they are very good at shutting down teams from the perimeter, especially from beyond the arc, where they are the best in the NBA in opponent 3 point field goals per game. But that won’t bother the Lakers, since LA ranks near the bottom of the league in 3 point field goal attempts per game. The Lakers offense is all about fast-break buckets and points in the paint, and those are two areas where the Phoenix defense simply isn’t as effective, not to mention the fact that the Lakers will have a huge edge on the boards tonight against a Suns team that ranks 30th in the NBA in total rebounding.
