Knicks Look to Extend Winning Streak Agaisnt a Curry-less Warriors | OSB
Golden State Warriors at New York Knicks: Props & Predictions
By Sam Batz
The reigning NBA Champions, the Golden State Warriors, play the ever improving New York Knicks tomorrow night in Madison Square garden. The Warriors are the 11 seed in the West with a 15-16 record. The Knicks are the 6 seed in the East with a 17-13 record. I like the Knicks in this one. They enter the contest on a seven game winning streak, which is currently the best run in the NBA. The Warriors will be without star players Steph Curry and Andrew Wiggins, making this a much tougher matchup for the defending champs.
The Knicks are a -6 point favorite and I expect them to cover the spread against Golden State. New York’s athletic power forward, Obi Toppin, remains sidelined with a knee injury but everyone else on the roster is healthy and playing well. Julius Randle leads the team with 22.5 points per game and 9.1 rebounds per game. Jalen Brunson averages 20.8 points per game and RJ Barrett averages 19.4. The Knicks are 9-3 as the favorite, but 7-7 at home this season. Against the spread, the Knicks are 5-0 in their last five games and will look to extend their winning streak to eight on Tuesday against a struggling Warriors team.
The Warriors will be without their best player, Stephen Curry, on Tuesday. Curry injured his shoulder and is expected to be out for about a month. According to Statmuse.com, Golden State is an abysmal 68-134 when Curry does not play. Steph is having an excellent season but injured himself going for a steal against the Pacers last Wednesday. He is averaging 30.0 points, 6.8 assists, and 6.6 rebounds per game, while shooting 50% from the field and 43.4% from the 3-point mark. He will be sorely missed by the Warriors, who rely heavily on the 2-time MVP. Golden State beat the Raptors on Sunday to break a three-game losing streak and they enter tomorrow’s contest as a +6 point underdog. They are 2-8 this season as the underdog and 3-14 in away games. They will be in New York tomorrow and if trends tell us anything, they will have a tough time winning this game.
If you are looking for a simple, straightforward kind of wager, I recommend betting the moneyline and taking the Knicks. They are the clear favorite and should continue their winning streak against the Warriors. If you are looking for something more exciting, you could look at the over/under. The Knicks play an imposing style of defense, allowing just 112.2 points per game to their opponents. The Warriors are averaging 117.3 points per game, but without their talisman Steph Curry, the Warriors will struggle to score. The Knicks only average 114.1 points per game and have gone under the point total in four of their last five games. I recommend taking the under in tomorrow’s Knicks vs. Warriors matchup.
Players that could have an impact on this one are New York’s point guard Jalen Brunson and Golden State’s shooting guard Jordan Poole. Brunson is averaging 22.2 points per game over his last five appearances, and has scored 30 points in two of his last three games. Brunson has also not missed a foul shot in six straight games, making 24 consecutive free throws over that same stretch. On the other end, Golden State’s Jordan Poole has played brilliantly in the absence of Steph Curry. Poole averages just 13.0 points against the Knicks, but in his last five games is averaging 26.0 points. He scored a career high 43 points in his last game against Toronto, and has been the Warriors main scoring option with Curry and Wiggins nursing injuries. Poole will be up against an impressive Knicks defensive unit but will see more of the ball with Curry and Andrew Wiggins out. However, the Knicks are playing inspired basketball and I have a tough time going against a team that is performing this well.
I predict that the New York Knicks will win their game tomorrow against the Golden State Warriors, 112-104.
