Matchup: Miami Heat vs. Sacramento Kings

The work week starts with a cross conference matchup between the Miami Heat and Sacramento Kings. Miami is 8th in the East with a 31-25 record, and will be on the road against the 8th place team in the West, the 32-23 Sacramento Kings. Miami is coming off 3-straight wins, while the Kings enjoyed back-to-back games. However, one team’s streak will come to an end Monday night when the Heat and Kings go head-to-head. Sacramento is the favorite, as the Kings have home court advantage, where they win 64% of the time, while the Heat will be without Jimmy Butler, who is serving a one-game suspension, putting Miami at a severe disadvantage.

Heat vs. Kings History

Monday will be the second matchup of the season between Miami and Sacramento, but the 71st all-time meeting overall. The Heat and Kings kicked off the series 36 years ago in 1988, and now face each other twice a season. In their first matchup of 2024, the Heat took the win, beating the Kings 115-106, holding an impressive Sacramento offensive under 110 points for just the 13th time this season. Miami has dominated this series, holding a 46-24 (win-rate: 65.7%) record over the Kings, but Sacramento’s odds to close that gap are looking strong.

Heat vs. Kings Game Predictions

I’m going with the Sacramento Kings to win the game (moneyline) and cover the spread (-7.5). Without Jimmy Butler, the Heat will be hard-pressed to keep pace with the Kings blistering speed. Butler had 31-points against Sacramento in their first meeting, but due to a suspension issued by the NBA for “instigating and engaging in an on-court altercation” in Miami’s win over the Pelicans on Friday, Jimmy Buckets will not be on the floor in Sacramento. Moreover, Tyler Herro, who’s averaging 20.8 points per game, is dealing with a knee issue and could miss time as well. Miami is beat up, while the Kings starting lineup is at full strength, giving Sacramento a clear edge over the Heat.

I also like the Under in this Heat vs. Kings matchup. The O/U total is set at 226.5 points, and while I have faith in the Kings scoring ability, the Heat are sorely lacking in the offensive production department. Hovering around 110 points per game, Miami hits the under 62.5% of the time, and 71.4% of the time on the road. The Heat’s scoring struggles coupled with their more than capable defense creates the perfect environment for a low-scoring game, so I hear the under calling my name.

In summary, here are my picks for the Heat vs. Kings Monday night matchup:

  • Moneyline Pick: Sacramento Kings (-298)

If you take the Kings Moneyline (-298): You risk $298 to win $100, for a total payout of $398, if the Kings win straight up.

  • ATS Pick: Sacramento Kings (-7.5)

If you take the Kings to Cover the -7.5 Spread (-110): You risk $110 to win $100, for a total payout of $210, if the Kings win the game by at least 8 points.

  • O/U Pick: Under (226.5)

If you take the Over on 226.5 total points (-110): You risk $110 to win $100, for a total payout of $210, if the Heat and Kings combine for less than 227 points.
