Grizzlies get Humbled
The Memphis Grizzlies are rid ing high right now, and for good reason. They’ve won 8 of their last 9 games, including 4 in a row, and are lengthening their gap between the Warriors for the 2 seed in the West. To make this all even more impressive is that their superstar, Ja Morant, has missed their last four games, and they’ve won them all, including wins against the Bucks and Nets.
The two main catalysts for this four game winning streak have been Desmond Bane and Dillon Brooks. Babe has averaged 24.5 points per game in this stretch on 58.9% shooting from the field. He’s been a great player, all season averaging 18.5 on the year, but really has stepped up without Ja. Dillon Brooks has played 3 of those four games and has averaged 20 points a game himself. Brooks had missed substantial time due to injury and only returned to action on March 13th, but had picked up where he left off.
The Warriors haven’t been the same Warriors team as early in the season, and naturally it’s been due to the loss of Stephen Curry. Since going down, the Warriors have been 1-4 in games without Steph. With that being said, they do have reason to be excited as Andre Iguodala is expected to make his return to action against the Grizzlies. He isn’t a premier scorer, but he is a ball distributor, which is exactly what this team needs right now.
With all this being said, the Grizzlies are caught up in the moment. They are high right now, but you just don’t simply lose an MVP caliber player like Ja and stay the same team. This is especially apparent when you play contenders like the Warriors. Ja is averaging 27.6 points per game, and since he is out, the Warriors can place Andrew Wiggins on Desmond Bane, and Jonathan Kuminga will help on Dillon Brooks. Outside those two, the Grizzlies will struggle to create offense and points.
For our Expert Warriors vs Grizzlies prediction, hammer the Warriors +7.
