Golden State Survives To Defend Title | Lakers vs Warriors | OSB
Los Angeles Lakers at Golden State Warriors: Conference Semifinal Prediction, Player Props, & Betting Tips for Game 1
By Sam Batz
The First Round of the NBA Playoffs are officially over, and now only 8 teams remain. The Conference Semifinal games have just begun, and on Tuesday, May 2nd the Los Angeles Lakers face the Golden State Warriors for Game 1 of their Second Round series (7:00 PM PST, TNT). The Lakers upset the No. 2 seed Memphis Grizzlies 4-2, becoming just the 6th No. 7 seed in history to advance past the First Round. The Warriors beat out the No. 3 seed Sacramento Kings 4-3, retaining the chance to defend their title. The LA Lakers went 3-1 against the Warriors during the regular season, yet because of home-court advantage, Golden State is the favorite in Game 1.
The Los Angeles Lakers (+4.5; ML +160)
The LA Lakers had the best record (16-7) of any team coming out of the All-Star break, and they carried that momentum into the postseason. The Lakers came out hot, beating the Grizzlies 128-112 at home in Game 1 of the First Round, and finished the series with an incredible 40-point blowout (125-85) in Game 6. The Lakers averaged a middling 112.2 points, but played excellent defense, holding Memphis to just 104.7 points per game (Max PA in First Round: 116, Game 5). King James leads the Lakers in scoring (22.2 PPG), followed by Anthony Davis (20.8 PPG), who is leading the team in rebounds (13.7 RPG) and will have a massive role to play against the Warriors. Golden State is one of the shortest teams in the NBA, and at 6’ 10” with a 7’ 6” wingspan, Anthony Davis could be the key to a Lakers upset.
The Golden State Warriors (-4.5; ML -190)
The Golden State Warriors came back from a 2-0 deficit in the First Round to advance to the Conference Semi’s for the 8th time in 11 seasons. The Warriors are postseason gurus who, against all odds, always seem to have an answer in the playoffs. Golden State spoiled the Sacramento Kings long awaited return to the postseason, but now face a seasoned playoff squad in the LA Lakers. The Warriors are led by Steph Curry who, as always, put together magical performances in the First Round. Curry averaged 33.7 points per game against the Kings, and capped off his incredible series with a record breaking 50-point performance in Game 7, but the 35-year old Curry knows the job isn’t done yet as he prepares for an epic showdown against Lebron and the Lakers.

Lakers vs. Warriors: Player Props
Rui Hachimura (Lakers Power Forward): Over 9.5 Points Scored (-125)
The Lakers acquired Hachimura in a trade a few weeks before the deadline, and his presence was felt immediately. LA is 21-12 (63.6%) with Rui Hachimura on the floor. He averaged 14.5 points per game off the bench in the First Round and played between 20 and 30 minutes per game. He recorded a high of 29 points in Game 1 against the Grizzlies, but posted just 6 points in Game 6. Hachimura can be a volatile scorer, but because of his size and strength, I predict he will go over 9.5 points in Game 1 against the Warriors.
Klay Thompson (Warriors Shooting Guard): Under 4.5 3-Pointers Made (-120)
Klay Thompson is the perfect compliment to Steph Curry and was quietly posting great numbers for the Warriors in their opening round of the playoffs. Thompson averaged over 20 points per game against the Kings, and sank 4 or more 3-point shots in 4 of their 7 First Round matchups. Thompson averaged 10.4 attempts and hit at least 2 3-pointers in every game. We all know Klay is an elite shooter, but the Lakers played excellent perimeter defense in the First Round, and I predict Klay Thompson will go under 4.5 3-pointers made as a result.
Lakers vs. Warriors: Game 1 Prediction
Take Golden State to win Game 1. The Warriors are amazing at home, while the Lakers won just once on the road in the First Round. The Chase Center is a hostile environment for away teams, and the Warriors love it. The Lakers should be able to keep up for most of the game, but like Game 7 against the Kings, Golden State will pull away in the 4th quarter. This series is being hailed as James vs. Curry, but basketball is a team sport, and the Warriors have the better team.
Prediction: Golden State Warriors Moneyline (-190)
