Matchup: Golden State Warriors vs. Houston Rockets

The Golden State Warriors face the Houston Rockets on Thursday in a matchup loaded with postseason implications. In the Western Conference the Warriors are 10th and the Rockets are 11th, with just 3-games separating them. Golden State has managed to widen the gap after winning 5 consecutive games, while the Rockets are backsliding after two straight losses. Houston went on a tear last month, winning 13 of their 15 games in March (13-2), including an 11-game win streak. But the Rockets are losing fuel fast, while the Warriors continue to pick up steam. The playoffs are right around the corner and Houston’s playoff window is closing fast, due in part to a Warriors side that won’t stop winning.

Warriors vs. Rockets Matchup History

This Thursday marks the 233rd regular season matchup between the Golden State Warriors and the Houston Rockets. Houston leads the series 126-106, but Golden State has 12-straight wins against the Rockets over the past 4-years. February 2020 was the last time Houston beat Golden State, and if the Warriors secure a win on Thursday they’ll have swept the Rockets over 4-straight seasons. Houston has improved dramatically compared to last year, when they finished 14th in the West with just 22 wins, and the Rockets are on the right track, but they’re not there yet.

Warriors vs. Rockets Game Predictions

My Warriors vs. Rockets prediction is: Golden State beats Houston on the road. The Warriors seem to have Houston’s number, winning 12-straight against the Rockets, including two this season. Golden State’s veteran leadership, headlined by Steph Curry, is showing us why experience in clutch situations is so important. The Warriors have been a dominating force in the NBA over the last decade, reaching the Finals 6 times in 9 years, and winning 4 championships in the process. Golden State understands what it takes to win in big moments, and Thursday’s matchup with Houston could determine which team reaches the postseason.

The Rockets 11-game run was impressive, but Houston’s red-hot scoring explosion has become a lukewarm bath. The Rockets went from averaging 120-points per game in March, to just 104.7 points per game over their last 3 matchups. The Rockets are losing steam at the worst possible time, and now face the hottest team in the NBA, the Golden State Warriors. It hasn’t always been pretty, but Steve Kerr always finds a way to win, and on Thursday the Warriors will extend their end-of-season streak, pushing Houston out of postseason contention.

In summary, here are my picks for the Warriors vs. Rockets matchup:

  • Moneyline Pick: Golden State Warriors (-175)

If you take the Warriors Moneyline (-175): You risk $175 to win $100, for a total payout of $275, if the Warriors win straight up.

  • ATS Pick: Golden State Warriors (-4.0)

If you take the Warriors to Cover the -4.0 Spread (-110): You risk $110 to win $100, for a total payout of $210, if the Warriors win the game by at least 4 points.

  • O/U Pick: Over (228)

If you take the Over on 228 total points (-110): You risk $110 to win $100, for a total payout of $210, if the Warriors and Rockets combine for more than 228 points.
