Los Angeles Lakers at Golden State Warriors: Conference Semifinal Game 2 Prediction, Player Props, & Betting Tips
By Sam Batz
After a thrilling Game 1, the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors now prepare for Game 2 of the Western Conference Semifinals, which is set to take place Thursday, May 4th (6:00 PM PST, ESPN). The Lakers took Game 1, beating the Warriors 117-112, taking away Golden State’s precious home-court advantage. The Warriors rallied in the 4th quarter to erase a 14-point deficit, but came up short in the end. The Lakers remain the underdogs for Game 2, while the Warriors, who were favored to win the series before it even began, are the favorites. If Game 1 was any indication, this series should be an instant classic.
The Los Angeles Lakers (+5.5; ML +190)
The Lakers are not the typical No. 7 seed we are used to seeing in the postseason. After a complete overhaul of their roster sometime around the trade deadline, the Lakers now look and feel like a true championship contender. Lebron James and Anthony Davis are still the most vital organs, but players like D’Angelo Russell, Rui Hachimura, and Jarred Vanderbilt are quickly becoming crucial to LA’s success. In my piece about the Lakers vs Warriors Game 1 matchup, I highlighted the importance of Anthony Davis in this series, and in Game 1, the big man showed everyone why he is the key that can open the door to the Conference Finals for the Lakers. AD exploded for 30 points, 23 rebounds, and 5 assists, and Golden State had no answer for him.
The Golden State Warriors (-5.5; ML -240)
The Warriors won 80.5% (33-8) of their home games during the regular season, yet in the playoffs, they have won just 50.0% (2-2) of their games in the Chase Center. Golden State is terrible on the road, and that Game 1 loss puts them in a very difficult situation. Game 2 is essentially a must-win matchup for the Warriors, as they can’t afford to drop another home game in this series. They played well in Game 1, shooting 40.6% from the field, and an incredible 39.6% (21/53) from the 3-point line, but the Warriors scored just 28 points in the paint and got blocked 10 times by LA. Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Jordan Poole combined for 73 points and miraculous 18 3-pointers, but that still wasn’t enough to take down the Lakers.

Lakers vs. Warriors: Player Props
Anthony Davis (Lakers Power Forward): Over 14.5 Rebounds (+105)
AD will be the standout player of the series. He scored 30 points and pulled down 23 rebounds in Game 1, and all the Warriors could do was watch. Davis is one of the biggest players on the court, and against Golden State’s shorter-than-average roster, AD can thrive. He is averaging 15.0 boards per game, and I predict Anthony Davis will go over 14.5 rebounds in Game 2.
Andrew Wiggins (Warriors Small Forward): Over 17.5 Points (-115)
Andrew Wiggins will have a pivotal role to play in Game 2. His teammates Steph Curry and Klay Thompson are bound to attract a majority of the Lakers attention, leaving room for Wiggins to work. Head Coach Steve Kerr loves Andrew Wiggins and trusts him with the ball in his hands. That trust will lead to points, and I predict Andrew Wiggins will go over 17.5 points in Game 2.
Lakers vs. Warriors: Game 2 Prediction
Take the Lakers to cover the spread. In Game 1, the Warriors lit it up from the 3-point line but the Lakers absolutely dominated down low, out scoring Golden State 54 to 28 in the paint. The Warriors have not been as dominant at home as we anticipated, but they need to win Game 2, and Steph Curry seems to be able to will his team to victory when it matters most. Golden State has a good chance to win the game, but with the way AD and King James are playing, the Lakers will keep it close. If the Warriors aren’t hitting from deep, we could see another Lakers upset in Game 2, but when you have the Splash Brothers on your team, there’s always a good chance of rain.
Prediction: LA Lakers Cover The Spread (+5.5)
