Boston Celtics at Philadelphia 76ers: Conference Semifinals Game 4 Prediction, Player Props, & Betting Tips
By Sam Batz
The NBA Playoffs continue on Sunday May, 7th with the Philadelphia 76ers taking on the Boston Celtics for Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. (3:30 PM EST, ESPN). The Celtics are up 2-1 in the series. The Sixers took Game 1, but lost two-in-a-row and now find themselves down a game. The Celtics are the higher seed and are expected to win the series, but the Sixers have the league MVP and could make things difficult for Boston. For Game 4, the Sixers are +2.5 point underdogs with a moneyline priced at +120, while the Celtics are -2.5 point favorites with a moneyline priced at -145.
The Boston Celtics (-2.5; ML -145)
The Boston Celtics are 6-3 in the postseason and are averaging 119.7 points per game, the best average of any team left in the playoffs. They dropped Game 1 against Philadelphia, but recovered nicely, winning the last 2 games and holding the Sixers to an average of 94.5 points per game. Boston is led by Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, who are averaging 26.2 points and 25.7 points per game respectively, but Boston’s true strength lies in their depth. They have 5 players (including Tatum and Brown) who are averaging 15+ points per game and have the experience, coaching, and talent to make it all the way back to the Finals. Boston is playing well, and if they continue to play as they did in Games 2 and 3, the Celtic’s will be up 3-1 after Sunday.
The Philadelphia 76ers (+2.5; ML +120)
The Sixers are 5-2 through 7 postseason games, but after sweeping the Brooklynn Nets in the First Round, Philly has their first games of the playoffs against Boston. But the biggest story coming out of Philadelphia is the Sixers inability to win a game this series with their superstar Center and NBA MVP, Joel Embiid. Embiid was named league MVP on Tuesday, May 2nd and gave an emotional and heartfelt speech about hardwork and determination. It was a touching moment and a nice reminder of how hard these players work to be where they are today, but it quickly faded, as the playoffs are an unyielding beast. Embiid has been suffering from a knee sprain, but played in Game 2, where his moment of triumph turned to ash. The Sixers lost 87-121 and Embiid recorded just 15 points, 3 rebounds, and 0 assists. Philadelphia also lost Game 3 (102-114) in their first home game of the series, bringing Embiid’s postseason record against the Celtics to 0-2.

Celtics vs. 76ers: Player Props
Malcolm Brogdon (Celtics Point Guard): Over 14.5 Points (-110)
The 30-year old Malcolm Brogdon was named this season’s Sixth Man of the Year. He led the Celtics second unit all season and continues to impress in the playoffs. Brogdon is averaging 15.3 points per game, recording over 14.5 in his last 4 games. Brogdon is a clinical player capable of facilitating the offense when the starters are taking a break. He averages 26.8 minutes per game and plays an essential role for Boston. I predict Malcolm Brogdon will go over 14.5 points in Game 4.
James Harden (76ers Shooting Guard): Over 20.5 Points (-115)
James Harden exploded for 45-points in Philadelphia’s Game 1 victory, but recorded less than 20-points in the following 2 games against the Celtics (Game 2: 12 pts; Game 3: 16 pts). The Sixers need Harden to be better in Game 4 and I predict he will deliver. The 33-year old 10x All-Star is not what he used to be, but Game 1 showed he still has something left in the tank, and I expect James Harden to go over 20.5 points in Game 4.
Celtics vs. 76ers Game 4 Prediction
Take the Boston Celtics to win Game 4 and take a 3-1 lead over the Sixers. Joel Embiid is questionable for Game 4, but even if he plays, Philadelphia will continue to struggle on offense against a Boston defense who has found its groove. The Celtics are limiting the Sixers to 102.7 points per game this series. Marcus Smart, one of Boston’s key defenders, is questionable for Game 4, but like I said, the Celtics have the depth and skill needed to fill the gaps when injuries arise. The Sixers won 70.7% of the time at home in the regular season, but the playoffs are a different game, and the Celtics will come out on top in Game 4.
Prediction: Boston Celtics Moneyline (-145)
