It’s Leap Day in the NBA and on this unique occasion fans will be treated to a rematch of last year’s NBA Finals, as the Miami Heat look for retribution against the reigning champion Denver Nuggets. We all know how the story ended, the Nuggets beat Miami 4-1 in the 2023 NBA Finals to secure Denver first ever championship title. Now, in their first matchup since the Finals, Miami is out for revenge. Unfortunately for the Heat, they remain the underdogs, putting them up against the odds once again versus the Denver Nuggets. However, Miami is streaking after 5-straight wins, but Denver’s Ball Arena is not a friendly place for visitors.

Heat vs. Nuggets History
Leap Day, 2024 will mark the 73rd all-time regular season meeting between the Nuggets and Heat. Denver holds a 38-34 lead over Miami in the series, as well as a 6-game win streak against the Heat. Miami is looking to snap that streak on their way to redemption, but with an 81.5% win-rate at home, the Nuggets won’t go down easily. The series began in 1988, and it’s been a relatively even matchup, but the reigning champs haven’t lost to Miami since 2020, and Denver posts a 9-1 record over the Heat in their last 10 matchups.
Heat vs. Nuggets Game Predictions
I’m going with the Denver Nuggets in this one. Rarely do I go against the Nuggets at home, as Denver is one of the most dominant home-court teams in the NBA. Posting a 22-5 home record, and going 8-2 in their last 10 home games, the Nuggets have proven to their opponents time and again that winning in Denver is no easy task. Miami is a great road team, winning 60% of their away games (18-12), and against most teams they’d have a chance, but not against the Nuggets. Miam’s winning streak will come to an end, while Denver’s run over the Heat will continue.
However, while I like Denver’s moneyline, I’m also taking the Heat to cover. The Nuggets cover about 44% of their games, while Miami covers the spread in nearly 60% of their road games. Additionally, with a 5-game streak under their belt, the Heat have all the momentum and confidence they need to keep it competitive. The under on the scoring total is also a strong bet, as the Heat hit the under more than anyone else is the NBA, posting a 21-9 under-over record (under: 70% of the time).
In summary, here are my picks for the Heat vs. Nuggets Thursday night matchup:
- Moneyline Pick: Denver Nuggets
- ATS Pick: Miami Heat
- O/U Pick: Under
