Matchup: Los Angeles Clippers vs. Houston Rockets

The NBA season continues on Wednesday with a Western Conference clash between the LA Clippers and Houston Rockets. The Clippers are true title contenders, while the Rockets have fallen out of relevance, creating a rather one-sided matchup. The Clips are 4th in the West, while the Rockets are 12th, 13 games behind LA. Houston still has a shot at the Play-In Tournament, but their window is closing fast, and after winning just 3 out of their last 10, the Rockets are losing fuel. The Clippers went on a tear before the All-Star break, but since returning to action, LA is 3-4. The Rockets are in a slump, but at home Houston is 20-10, putting the favored Clippers on upset watch.

Clippers vs. Rockets History

It’s the second matchup of the season, but the 215th all-time meeting between the Clippers and Rockets. Houston holds the lead over LA with a 124-90 record, but the Clippers are on an 8-game win streak against Houston. The last time the Rockets beat the LA Clippers was 2021, and since then the Clippers have gone two whole seasons without a loss to Houston. The Rockets are looking to snap that streak, and nearly did in their first meeting, but lost 100-106 in LA.

Clippers vs. Rockets Game Predictions

I’m going with the underdog Houston Rockets over the LA Clippers in this one. The Rockets have nothing to lose, and are certainly in the mood to take the Clippers down after suffering 8-straight loses. Moreover, the Rockets are at home, where they win 66.7% of the time. The Clippers had a nice run, but the All-Star break killed their momentum and it’s going to take a few more weeks to get their groove back. Houston on the other hand is coming off a huge win over the Phoenix Suns, giving the Rockets a much needed boost.

The Clippers certainly have the better team, headlined by All-Stars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, but all that star power can be tough to manage. Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue moved former MVP Russell Westbrook to the bench, and it worked wonders for the team, but with Westbrook out because of a hand injury, the Clippers are missing his energy off the bench. 21-year old Alperen Sengun leads Houston with 20.8 PPG, but shooting guard Jalen Green is coming off back-to-back 34-point performances, and will play a major role against the Clippers. The Rockets are undoubtedly the underdogs here, but the Clippers are slipping, and Houston can capitalize.

In summary, here are my picks for the Clippers vs. Rockets Wednesday night matchup:

  • Moneyline Pick: Houston Rockets (+195)

If you take the Rockets Moneyline (+195): You bet $100 to win $195, for a total payout of $295, if the Rockets win straight up.

  • ATS Pick: Houston Rockets (+6)

If you take the Rockets to Cover the +6 Spread (-110): You risk $110 to win $100, for a total payout of $210, if the Rockets win the game, or lose by less than 6-points.

  • O/U Pick: Under (224.5)

If you take the Under on 224.5 total points (-110): You risk $110 to win $100, for a total payout of $210, if the Clippers and Rockets combine for more than 224 points.
