Cavaliers And Pacers Compete For Second Straight Win | Cavaliers vs Pacers | OSB
Cleveland Cavaliers at Indiana Pacers
By Sam Batz
The Cleveland Cavaliers make their way to Indianapolis on Sunday, Feb. 5th to play the Indiana Pacers. The game will be the third of the season between Cleveland and Indiana. They played twice back in December; the Cavs won the first and the Pacers won the second. Both the Cavs and the Pacers are coming off wins in their most recent matchup. Cleveland beat the Memphis Grizzlies 128-113, even after Donovan Mitchell was ejected at the end of the 3rd quarter for fighting Memphis’ Dillion Brooks. The Pacers beat the Sacramento Kings 107-104 in Indianapolis, after losing to the Lakers 111-112 the night before.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are the 5th seed in the East with a record of 32-22. They are 5-5 in their last 10 games, and 5.5 games behind the conference leading Celtics. The Cavs are 7 games up on the Pacers however, and are the favorite in this matchup even though they are on the road. The Cavaliers are a much improved side, and according to PointsBet, have the 10th best odds to win the NBA Finals at +2000. Additionally, the Cavs are +1000 to win the Eastern Conference, and +350 to win the Central Division. Cleveland is led by Donovan Mitchell, who has recorded 27.1 points, 4.8 assists, and 3.9 rebounds per game. Mitchell is supported by Point Guard Darius Garland (22.0 points, 8.2 assists, & 2.8 rebounds) and Center Jarrett Allen (14.1 points, 1.7 assists, and 9.7 rebounds).
The Indiana Pacers are currently the 11th seed in the East, with a 25-29 record, and are currently on the outside looking in on a spot in the postseason. The Pacers are coming off an impressive win over the Kings in their last game, but went 2-8 in their last 10 games. The win over the Kings snapped a four game losing streak, but Indiana has a lot of work to do in order to secure a playoff position. Fortunately, Tyrese Haliburton, the Pacers leading scorer and best playmaker, is back on the floor after missing twelve games with a knee and elbow injury. The Pacers went 2-10 without Haliburton, and are certainly relieved to have him back in the rotation. Indiana isn’t a contender this year, as they are +35000 to win the Finals and +20000 to win the East, but with their best player back on the court and a renewed sense of motivation, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them turn things around in the second-half of the season.

Cavaliers vs. Pacers All-Time Series
The Cleveland Cavaliers and Indiana Pacers have played a total of 205 regular season games in 47 years. The Pacers hold the series lead with 106 wins, while the Cavaliers trail with 99. They each have a win over the other this season, and including Sunday’s game, will face each other two more times before the end of the regular season. The Cavs are averaging 122.0 points against Indiana this season, while the Pacers average 123.5 points against Cleveland.
Prediction
It will be a close game, but I’ll take the Pacers over the Cavaliers in this one. Indiana has been atrocious on defense, allowing 120.9 opponent points per game through their last 10 matchups. However, they just held the Sacramento Kings, who are leading the league in points per game (119.2), to 104 points on Friday. Moreover, the Pacers forced 19 Sacramento turnovers and caused the Kings to shoot a below-average 43.0% from the field. All signs that Indiana’s defense could be improving with the return of Tyrese Haliburton and Myles Turner. Regardless, the Pacers were helped along by a great night from three, shooting 41.5% from the arch against the Kings. The Pacers will look to continue their above-average shooting against the Cavaliers, who allowed the Pacers to go 56.5% from the field and 61.3% from three, in the Pacers last matchup with Cleveland.
Prediction: The Indiana Pacers Moneyline and the Under.
