Game one of the series went amazingly if you’re a fan of the Warriors and horribly if you’re a fan of The Mavericks. The Warriors played some master class defense on Luka Doncic, holding him only to 20 points, which for him is the worst game he’s had of this entire playoffs. He went six for eighteen from the field, horrible for someone who’s averaged 33 points in his playoff career. But we have to take into account that the Dallas Mavericks are coming off a brutal seven game series against the Phoenix Suns that they gave their all in, and didn’t even get to go home before heading over to California in preparation for game one of this series. I think Kenny Smith summed it up perfectly in his postgame analysis, where he said that game two of this series was really going to be game one because the Dallas Mavericks needed a game to get their minds off last series and get their minds right for this one.
Now in Game 2, Luka Doncic will still be the center of attention. So expect Jalen Brunson, the Mavericks’ emerging guard, who averaged 30 points in their first series to get it going as their second option. With all the eyes focused on Luka, he has to take advantage of good matchups for himself, like Jordan Poole and Steph Curry, who are defensive liabilities.
