Atlanta Hawks at Boston Celtics: Game 5
By Sam Batz
The NBA Playoffs continue on Tuesday, April 25th when the Atlanta Hawks travel back to Boston to face the Boston Celtics in Game 5 (7:30 PM EST, TNT). The Celtics led the series 3-1 after beating the Hawks 129-121 in Game 4. Boston is heavily favored to win Game 5 with a moneyline priced at -750. Atlanta is a +12 point underdog with a moneyline priced at +500. The Hawks avoided the sweep by winning Game 3, but in Boston they lost both Games 1 and 2 by a margin of 13-points. The Celtics will end the series with a win on Tuesday night, while the Hawks are fighting to keep their season afloat by forcing a Game 7.
The Atlanta Hawks (+550)
Not many people are giving the Hawks much of a chance to win Game 5. ESPN Analytics is giving Atlanta a 13.6% chance to beat the Celtics and FiveThirtyEight has them at a 2% chance to see the next round. Atlanta entered the playoffs as the No. 7 seed in the East, but honestly never had much of a chance against Boston. The Hawks won Game 3 in Atlanta, but are struggling on the road against Boston. Trae Young and Dejounte Murray are averaging over 25 points per game, but Atlanta’s defense is giving up 120.5 points to the Celtic’s, and to make matters worse, Murray has been suspended for Game 5 for his post game actions involving an official.
The Boston Celtics (-800)
The Celtics are looking strong and are heavily favored in Game 5. Boston ended the year with a 57-25 (69.5%) record, 1 game behind the No. 1 seed Milwaukee Bucks. The Celtics have the best odds to represent the East in the NBA Finals, and at 98%, are nearly guaranteed to see the next round. Jayson Tatum leads Boston with 28.5 points per game in the First Round, but the Celtics have 5 players averaging double-digit scoring figures. Boston has outplayed Atlanta all series and are highly likely to send the Hawks home packing after Game 5.

Hawks vs. Celtics: Best Player Props
Jayson Tatum (Celtics Small Forward): Over 30.5 Points
Tatum is Boston’s leading man. He averaged 30.1 points per game in the regular season and recorded 31 points against Atlanta in Game 4. In Boston’s TD Garden, Tatum averaged 31.7 points this year. Atlanta is giving up 120.5 points per game and containing Tatum has been a major issue for the Hawks. He will be determined to end the series on Tuesday, and I predict Jayson Tatum will go over 30.5 points in Game 5.
Jaylen Brown (Celtics Shooting Guard): Over 26.5 Points
Jaylen Brown is a key player for Boston. In Game 4, he and Tatum combined for 62 points, or 48.1% of Boston’s offense. Brown is averaging 23.3 points per game against Atlanta, and averaged 26.7 points per game at home during the regular season. He is an explosive player capable of scoring anywhere in the court, and with Atlanta’s Dejounte Murray out for Game 4, Brown will face little resistance from the Hawks. Brown and Tatum are a dangerous duo, and I expect them both to post huge numbers on Tuesday.
Hawks vs. Celtics: Game 5 Prediction
Go the simple route and take the Boston Celtics to win Game 5. Boston came into this series as the out-and-out favorites, and they haven’t disappointed. Last year’s Eastern Conference Champions are looking set to make another deep run in the playoffs. The Hawks were just the appetizer, and although Atlanta avoided being swept, they never had much of a chance against Boston. The Celtics have everything you’d want in a title contender and are without a doubt the favorites to make it out of the East.
Prediction: Boston Celtics Moneyline (-800)
