RAPTORS AT HEAT GAME 3 – 5/7/16 NBA PICK AND ODDS

The Miami Heat did well for themselves to get a split coming out of the Air Canada Centre for the first two games of their Eastern Conference playoff series against the Toronto Raptors, but they could have done better than that. Now the series goes South, as the Heat plays host to the Raptors in Game 3, scheduled for 5:05 PM ET at the American Airlines Arena in Miami. These teams have been going in different directions as far as the basketball pointspread is concerned; Miami has covered four straight games, while Toronto has dropped its last six against the number. One of the reasons for the Raptors’ disappointment in that regard is probably the underachievement of point guard Kyle Lowry, who has shot just 28.6% in the series, and has simply been ice cold for the better part of the last two months. In 18 of his last 19 games, he has failed to make half his shots.

Meanwhile, Goran Dragic has been a hero for the Heat, with 46 points over the two games, and 56% accuracy from the field. Hassan Whiteside, the intimidating pivot man for the Heat, pulled down 13 rebounds in Game 2, as he battled with a minor knee injury. He’s got his work cut out for him against Jonas Valanciunas, who has been a 68% shooter for Toronto.

In the NBA playoff lines posted on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, the Heat lays points at home:

Miami Heat -5.5

Toronto Raptors +5.5

Over 186 points -110

Under 186 points -110

Joe Johnson, who was a concern for the Raptors going in, has been somewhat cold for the Heat, going just 15-41 from the field, and missing all eight of his opportunities from the three-point arc. However, the rest of the Miami squad has done quite well from downtown; the Heat have made 13 of their 25 attempts, and that was certainly something that was unexpected. Another thing that wasn’t expected was that Miami would turn the ball over so much. They coughed it up 20 times in Game 1 in 21 more in Game 2, and that just isn’t going to get it done in the long run. They had things much more under control in the regular season, so perhaps a big improvement can be expected in that area as the team returns home.

But what can BetAnySports patrons expect out of Lowry, who has now been under 40% in each of his last nine games? That’s the kind of thing that just leads to uncertainty on the part of the head coach, and you know that Duane Casey has to be scratching his head as to what to do at the moment. But the Raptors have not been all that good shooting the ball from long-range as a team, hitting only 23%. And they have been getting so-so production out of the bench; in Game 2, the athletic Norman Powell played eight minutes and 39 seconds and compiled a minus-18 in the plus/minus rating.

Miami has now held eleven of its last 12 opponents under 100 points, and they are a -155 favorite to win the series. Toronto, which will really be behind the eight-ball if they lose on Saturday, is priced at +135 at BetAnySports, where you can get a great free play bonus just for signing up, enjoy reduced juice wagering and Live Betting Ultra, and make all your transactions in Bitcoin, if you so desire.
