NBA PLAYOFF ODDS — GAME 3: SAN ANTONIO SPURS AT MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES (4/22)
At this juncture, the question probably isn’t whether the Memphis Grizzlies can win a game or two over the San Antonio Spurs, but whether they can cover the pointspread. This was once a formidable bunch, but they were much healthier at the time, and now they are sizable underdogs on their own home floor, against the Western Conference’s #2 seed. With San Antonio holding a 2-0 lead, the series shifts to the FedEx Forum in Memphis for Game 3, which begins at 9:35 PM ET on Friday. And BetAnySports customers will have the opportunity, even after the game begins, to stay involved with the action, as they partake in what Live Betting Extra has to offer.
Is obviously widely known that Memphis is missing two members of the starting lineup; center Marc Gasol is out with a broken foot, while point guard Mike Conley is dealing with his Achilles injury. This does not bode well for a team that was not super-deep to begin with. They have actually had to use 39-year-old Vince Carter in the starting lineup, and that creates some opportunities for the Spurs, who distribute the ball so well on the offensive end.
Neither of the two games they played thus far have been competitive. In Game 1, Memphis he just 39% from the field in a 106-74 blowout. And then they were even more inept on the offensive end in Game 2, shooting 33% and getting pasted 94-68. Memphis had no running game at all, with just six fast break points, and they made only two triples. The truth is, these are elements of their game that really do not exist, and their well-known strategy for pounding the ball inside is going to be less effective to without Gasol’s presence. Zach Randolph, who has been an All-Star is a power forward, is hitting just 27% of his shots for the series.
In the NBA playoff odds posted on this game by the people at BetAnySports, San Antonio is a big road favorite:
San Antonio Spurs -11.5
Memphis Grizzlies +11.5
Over 181.5 points -110
Under 181.5 points -110
The current state of affairs has allowed San Antonio the opportunity to avoid exerting too much stress on its starters. And that is going to be very important going forward, as they will have more gas left in the tank. Coach Gregg Popovich was able to sit out Kawhi Leonard, Tony Parker and LaMarcus Aldridge in the fourth quarter of Game 2, as the bench took care of things. The Spurs’ reserves are outscoring those of the Grizzlies by 32 points in the two games combined.
After losing by a total of 58 points in the first two games, Memphis is obviously happy to be coming home, and they have been a very good team there this season, going 26-15 straight-up. But will that be much of a help against this San Antonio squad? That’s what BetAnySports patrons have to ask themselves, as the Spurs have defeated them at the FedEx Forum by margins of 20 and 14 points. The Grizzlies failed to shoot even 40% in either of those home games.
Frankly, what Memphis needs to do is to slow the game down to even more of a crawl and hope that San Antonio puts together an off-night shooting. They can conceivably make the pace their friend, as it has been below 90 possessions per 48 minutes in both games. Judging from the total of only 52 points in the paint for Game 2, this is more of a mid-range and perimeter affair, and it would be a tough proposition for the Grizzlies to take their chances. Let’s be honest – this is a team that has lost 12 of its last 13 games; how many different ways could they really go?
