NBA PLAYOFF PICKS – GAME 3: CLEVELAND CAVALIERS AT DETROIT PISTONS (4/22)

The Detroit Pistons would seem to have an opportunity to make things tighter in their Eastern Conference playoff series against the Cleveland Cavaliers, but they better really get their act together when it comes to defending the perimeter. The Pistons allowed the Cavaliers to hit 20 three-pointers in Wednesday night’s Game 2, and that resulted in a 107-90 Cleveland win. How they are going to get this accomplished, who knows. But they are being attacked on other fronts as they head into what is critical Game 3, which starts at 7:05 PM ET at the Palace of Auburn Hills. BetAnySports customers can get reduced juice wagering before the game starts, and then after the opening whistle, they can continue to engage in the action with real-time betting, using the state-of-the-art software available with Live Betting Extra.

Admittedly the Cavaliers are not going to hit that many triples in every game, but they obviously have demonstrated that they can be Detroit out on the perimeter. The Pistons held a 48-30 edge in points in the paint in Game 2, and that did not help them much. Lebron James has often been guarded by rookie Stanley Johnson, but he is schooling the kid, hitting six out of six field-goal attempts against him on Wednesday night.

And Cleveland has not been making a lot of mistakes with the basketball, turning it over only 16 times in the two games combined. They really don’t need to get out on the fast break, and the Pistons are not forcing them to. What’s more, the Cavaliers have figured out a way to neutralize Detroit’s big man.

In the NBA playoff lines posted on this game by the people at BetAnySports, Cleveland is laying points on the road:

Cleveland Cavaliers -4.5

Detroit Pistons +4.5

Over 200.5 points -110

Under 200.5 points -110

The Pistons had better figure out a way to avoid getting hurt by the free-throw shooting of Andre Drummond, who made the All-Star team this season and is without question the premier rebounder in the NBA, but simply can’t hit from the charity stripe. No one has ever had a worse season then him from that standpoint, as he has been only 35.5% accurate. And Cleveland has taken to intentionally fouling him as it strategically suits them. Drummond is only 5-18 from the line into games, and there is no reason the Cavaliers would not continue to “hack” him.

A key player as far as exploiting Drummond on the defensive end is going to be Kevin Love, who, as BetAnySports patrons are aware, has a unique skill set, in that he can pound the boards, but is also a very deft passer and one of the best outside-shooting big men in the league. Love hit four triples in Game 1 and three more in Game 2, and when he is on the floor, part of Cleveland’s smaller lineup, Drummond often has no choice but to come out and guard him, thus taking him away from the backboards.

Detroit defeated Cleveland three out of four times in the regular season, and they really made a game of it in the opener, sticking with the Cavs the most of the way and losing 106-101 behind 51% shooting. They got the cover in that one, but didn’t come close on Wednesday, as Cleveland scored at least 100 points for the 12th consecutive game.
