BASKETBALL BETTING PREVIEW – SAN ANTONIO SPURS AT GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS (1/25)

Well, the Golden State Warriors came through their first “Game of the Year” with flying colors last week, and it may have indirectly led to a coaches firing in Cleveland. No such thing is going to happen with the San Antonio Spurs, but the Warriors have an opportunity to make the proverbial “statement” nonetheless when these teams take the floor at 10:35 PM ET at the Oracle Arena in Oakland. Fans can see this game on the NBA Network, and BetAnySports customers can place wagers while the action is happening through the incredible facilities of Live Betting Extra.

The Warriors got off to their tremendous 24-0 start, and currently they are 40-4 straight-up and 25-17-2 against the basketball pointspread. But San Antonio, which neither sought nor received a lot of fanfare, is just two games behind at 38-6, and they have been a sizzling 30-14 against the points.

For the future Hall of Famer, Tim Duncan, is going to be held out of this game by Gregg Popovich due to “knee soreness,” though not a lot of people are buying that excuse on the part of the coach. Regardless, San Antonio has won 13 straight games, and they have been an excellent road team when it comes to producing profits for NBA betting backers, as they have gone 13-7 ATS.

Golden State is a perfect 20-0 at home, but just 9-10-1 against the number.

In the basketball betting odds posted on this game by the people at BetAnySports, with reduced juice included, Golden State is the favorite:

San Antonio Spurs +.4 .5 (-101)

Over 211 points -108

Under 211 points -102

Steve Kerr, who led Golden State to the NBA championship last year in his first year as a head coach, is back on the sidelines, having surrendered duties on an interim basis to Luke Walton. Kerr, who played four seasons in the league with San Antonio and considers Popovich a mentor, had two back surgeries and took a leave of absence on October 1. Essentially the same cast that brought Golden State a world championship last year is in place. Stephen Curry, last year’s Most Valuable Player, is leading the league in scoring with 30.1 points per game, and he is tops in the area of three-pointers made by a wide margin. His teammate, Klay Thompson, averages 20.5 points and is second in three-pointers. But the guy who really does it all for the Warriors is Draymond Green, who has averaged 14.7 points, 9.5 rebounds, 7.3 assists, provides great defense and has shot 41% from beyond the three-point arc.

BetAnySports patrons know that Duncan is in the twilight of his career, but of course we have heard that for a number of seasons now. He averages 26 minutes per game and pulls down 7.3 rebounds per contest. He is also the team’s best inside defender. Is his absence an accurate barometer as to how much stock Popovich really puts in this game?

Everybody is familiar with the “Big Three” of Duncan, Manu Ginobili and point guard Tony Parker, but there are new standouts in town. One of them is high-priced free-agent LaMarcus Aldridge, who has sacrificed some of the gaudy numbers he put up in Portland for the sake of chasing an NBA championship. Aldridge is playing less than 30 minutes a game and has averaged 15.9 points. He missed San Antonio’s last game against the Lakers, suffering from back soreness, but he is on target to play here. The Spurs’ MVP candidate is Kawhi Leonard, who is not only averaging 20 points a game and 6.9 rebounds, but is shooting 50% from the field, 48% from the arc and 88% from the free-throw line. Leonard, who has won the NBA finals MVP award as well as last season’s Defensive Player of the Year honor, was just voted as a starter onto the Western Conference All-Star game team.
