Blue Jays vs. Pirates odds, prediction, and betting tips for MLB

bluejays vs pirates

The Toronto Blue Jays will have their third game of the series against the Pittsburgh Pirates when they travel to PNC Park (1:35 p.m. ET). The Blue Jays bounced back against the Pirates in their first game of the series besting them 4-0 in the game. Toronto need a win badly as they had previously lost their last five games. In their series against the Boston Red Sox, Toronto got swept and didn’t win a game. Pittsburgh is desperately looking for a win, as they have lost their  last five games games. In their last series against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Pirates did not win a game losing all three. Look for the Pirates to bounce back strong after getting shutout in the first game of the series

Blue Jays Baseball

The Blue Jays are in fourth place in the AL East with a 19-14 record. Toronto is currently eight games back from the Tampa Bay Rays for first place in the divison. This is an important series for Toronto as they will look to turn their struggles around and pick up some games on the Rays. Which they already have by winning the first game of the series. The Blue Jays have struggled on the road so far this year with a 10-11 record. This season Toronto has scored has scored 155 runs and have allowed 150. Yusei Kikuchi will be on the mound for Toronto in this game. Kikuchi has a 4-0 record with a 4.02 ERA and 30 strikeouts. In his last start he went 4.1 innings giving up 9 hits, 5 runs, 0 walks, with 2 strikeouts. He will have his hands full against a good Pirates team.

So far into the season Matt Chapman is having a great season for the Blue Jays. Chapaman leads Toronto with a .350 batting average, a .437 on base percentage, with 21 RBIs. Bo Bichette has also been a key piece for the Blue Jays this season leading the team with 7 homeruns and 46 hits, while having a .329 batting average. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has done his thing so far this season with 7 doubles and 7 homeruns, while having a .318 batting average.

In their win against the Pirates on the road, Guerrero Jr. got it started off in the first inning singling to left field to score Bichette. In the fourth inning Daulton Varsho doubled to right field to score Whit Merrifield. Next, in the fifth inning George Springer hit a two-run homerun to help the Blue Jays take a 4-0 lead. Chris Bassitt cruised on the mound for the Blue Jays going 7.0 innings giving up 4 hits, 0 runs, 4 walks, with 5 strikeouts.

Pirates Baseball

The Pirates are in first place in the NL Central with a 20-13 record on the season. This is an important series for the Pirates as the Milwaukee Brewers are only 1.5 games back from them for first place in the NL Central. They have had a good start to the season playing in front of their home fans as they are 9-5 on the season at PNC Park. So far this season Pittsburgh has scored 160 runs and have allowed 127. Roansy Contreras will try his best to keep at 127 runs allowed. This season he has a 3-2 record with a 4.09 ERA. In his last start he only went 5.1 innings giving up 6 hits, 4 earned runs, 4 walks, with 3 strikeouts. Look to see if Contreras can have a good day on the mound against a struggling Blue Jays team.

So far this season the Pirates have had many of their players step up offensively. Bryan Reynolds has been a big piece for Pittsburgh so far this season as he leads the team in batting average, RBIs, and hits. Reynolds has a .322 batting average, 23 RBIs, and 38 hits on the season. Andrew McCutchen has been fantastic also, with a .238 batting average, 6 homeruns, 15 RBIs, and 24 hits. Connor Joe has been an on base machine with a .280 batting average and a .368 on base percentage.

In their loss against the Blue Jays on the road, the Pirates struggled hitting. Pittsburgh was shutout only having four hits in the game . Reynolds was one of the four players to record a hit in this game. Rich Hill started for the Pirates in the game as he went 5.1 innings giving up 8 hits, 4 earned runs, 2 walks, with 5 strikeouts.

Blue Jays vs. Pirates Prediction

I love the Pirates in this game at home against a struggling Blue Jays team. The Pirates just simply win at PNC Park. They have lost five games in a row. I think they get back into shape after losing at home against the Blue Jays in the first game of the series. At some point the Pirates have to turn this losing streak around and start piling some wins together. Go and lock this bet in right now and lets cash!

Blue Jays vs. Pirates Pick: Pittsburgh Pirates Moneyline (+118).
