Yankees Playoff Streak In Jeopardy
The New York Yankees are last in the AL East with less than a 1% chance to make the postseason. Overall, the Yankees are 64-68, but their hopes were truly dashed after a 9-game losing streak from August, 12th to the 22nd. The Yankees are 9-17 in August and 4-6 in the last 10. They’ve struggled to win games, and while injuries have played a role, the true culprit behind New York’s disappointing season is a lack of offensive production. The Yankees are 29th in total hits, 25th in total runs, and 23rd in RBIs. Fortunately for New York, they’re up against a Detroit side who’s even worse at the plate.
The Detroit Tigers are 59-73, and like the Yankees, have virtually no chance to see the postseason. Only two teams have been officially eliminated from playoff contention (KC Royals & Oakland A’s), but the Tigers aren’t far behind. Detroit went 4-6 in their last 10, and are coming off back-to-back losses against the Yankees. The Tigers recorded 7 hits in both losses, but have just 3 total runs in the series. The Yankees may be a bad offense, but the Tigers are hopeless. New York will win the series closer over Detroit.
