Phillies or Cardinals? 

The Phillies and Cardinals are two teams vying for a wild card spot, and this series will likely help the eventual winner of the berth. After passing the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League wild card race, the visiting Philadelphia Phillies will look to build some distance on them Monday. The Phillies won 2-0 Friday and 1-0 Saturday in the first two contests of the four-game series at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. They have won four of five games against the Cardinals this season and they have won seven of their last nine games overall. The Phillies are now two games ahead of the Cardinals for the 3rd wild card spot. The Cardinals need something to change, and they need it to change now. This team was atop their division just a couple weeks ago, but now they have lost eight of their last 10 games, and have scored just four runs TOTAL in their last six losses. 

 

Both these teams are having similar seasons, not only record wise where they are separated by only two games, but also statistically. Both these squads have team batting averages in the .246-.249 range, and team ERA just south of 3.80.
