Tigers Continue Spiral

If we are being honest, neither team in tonight’s game is good. Neither the A’s nor the Tigers have broken even the 40 wins mark this year, and it looks like it might take them a while to do so after the All Star break. But the line implies that the Tigers are a better team and are favored in this one when they really shouldn’t be. These two teams have met up 5 previous times before today, and believe it or not, Oakland has taken 4 of those games. In those five games the A’s have outscored the Tigers 20 runs to 10 runs. On top of that, Oakland, who ranks 30th in the MLB in team ERA, actually has the better pitcher in tonight’s game. Garrett Hill of the Tigers has only started two games this year, and has a poor 5.73 ERA, and only 4 strikeouts in those two starts. Frankie Montas of the A’s hasn’t exactly had a great year either, but his 16 starts, 3.26 ERA, and 100 strikeouts definitely edge out Garrett Hill.
