The Yankees Need a Boost

The New York Yankees will travel to Colorado to take on the Rockies in a cross-league matchup. The Yankees are 49-42, but went 4-6 in their last 10 games before the All-Star break. Injuries to key players have followed New York all season, and I’m sorry to say Yankees fans, but Aaron Judge remains sidelined with a toe injury. Last year’s American League MVP, Judge leads the Yankees with 19 home runs in just 49 games played. The Yankees are 19-23 without Judge this season, but luckily for New York, they are playing one of the worst teams in the MLB on Friday.

The Colorado Rockies have not had a winning season since 2018, and are currently 34-57, 23 games away from .500. The Rockies are last in the NL West and 27th in the MLB, with a low win-rate of just 37.4%. Colorado won just 3 of their last 10 games before the All-Star break, and won just 2 of their last 5 meetings with the Yankees. Colorado has a -147 run differential, allowing an abysmal 540 runs against, the 29th worst total in the MLB.

I like the Yankees in this one. The Rockies are scraping the bottom-of-the-barrel and I have very little confidence in their abilities against any opponent. New York is going with Carlos Rodon on the mound to start the game, and even though Rodon hasn’t seen much action this season, having pitched just 5.1 innings, the Yankees will do well at the plate against Colorado’s starting pitcher, Austin Gomber, who has given up 20 home runs in 90.0 innings pitched this season.

So for our Yankees vs. Rockies expert pick, take the New York Yankees to win on Friday.
