San Francisco Giants at Milwaukee Brewers: Analysis, Prediction, and Betting Tips

By Sam Batz

giants vs brewers

On Friday, May 26th the San Francisco Giants will be in Milwaukee to take on the Brewers in a classic National League matchup (8:10 PM EST, MLB.TV). From 1998 to 2023, the Giants and the Brewers have played a total of 175 games. The Giants lead the series 96-79, but the Brewers are the favorites to win on Friday. It may not be the most storied series in the MLB, but San Francisco and Milwaukee have played each other enough to know what to expect. This season, neither side is scoring many runs but that doesn’t mean it won’t be a great game, as both teams continue to fight their way up the standings.

The San Francisco Giants (+1.5; ML +110)

The SF Giants are 24-25 (49.0%) which puts them at 3rd place in the NL West, 9th place in the National League, and 19th in the MLB. It’s been a slow start, but with plenty of baseball left to play, the Giants could still end the year with a postseason berth. FiveThirtyEight is giving San Fran a 34% chance to reach the playoffs, but a lot can happen between now and October. After winning the World Series in 2010, 2012 and 2014, the Giants qualified for the postseason just twice, but never made it past the Divisional Series. Despite their poor record, things are looking up for San Francisco, who went 7-3 in their last 10 games, and are looking to build on that momentum against Milwaukee.

The Milwaukee Brewers (-1.5; ML -130)

The Milwaukee Brewers are atop their division with a 27-22 (55.1%) record, and after back-to-back series against the Tampa Bay Rays and Houston Astros, the Brewers face a slightly less threatening opponent on Friday. The Brewers are 1st in the NL Central, 7th in the National League, and 17th in the MLB (3 games up on the Giants). Milwaukee doesn’t score a lot of runs, nor do they record many hits, but they have excellent fielders and a bullpen filled with talented pitchers. The Brewers are coming off back-to-back shutout wins over the Houston Astros at home, and Milwaukee should be able to handle a Giants team averaging less than 5 runs per game. The Brewers are tough at home, and with Freddy Peralta on the mound, Milwaukee is in a strong position to win.

Giants vs. Brewers Prediction

Take the Brewers to beat the Giants on Friday night. The Giants are a middling team, while the Brewers are division leaders. Neither Milwaukee nor San Francisco scores many runs, and this is likely to be a low-scoring matchup, but the Brewers play better defense, giving up 4.22 runs per game, compared to the Giants who give up 4.70 runs per game. Additionally, the Brewers play well at home, winning over 62% of the time in Milwaukee, while the Giants have struggled on the road, winning less than 40% of the time away from San Francisco. I expect it to be a close game, as these two sides are evenly matched, but I’ll take Milwaukee to collect the dub in their second game against the Giants.

Prediction: Milwaukee Brewers Moneyline (-130)
