The odds for this game have yet to come out at the time of this writing, but based on the pitching matchup in this one, expect the run total to be set relatively low. Expect around 7.5 runs. The starting pitchers in tonight’s game are Marco Gonzales of the Mariners, set to take on Martin Perez of the Texas Rangers. Both these pictures have had quality seasons. Marco Gonzalez hasn’t had the best win-loss record at 5-9, but his ERA of 3.24 and WHIP of 1.31 are very respectable. His counterpart, Perez has fared more favorably in the win loss columns as he currently sits at 7-2 and his ERA is an even more impressive 2.72 with a 1.18 WHIP. However, Perez’s last outing didn’t go according to plan. He allowed six runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking one over six innings. Perez threw 61 of 97 pitches for strikes in Saturday’s outing, his worst since a four-run appearance June 27. It was just the third time this season that the lefty allowed more than three runs in a game. While his stats this season, along with record, showed that this game was nothing more than a fluke, I think it is a little concerning. And despite the fact that the Mariners ranked 24th in team batting average this season, they ranked 12th in team on Base Percentage, and I expect them to get on base and score plenty of runs tonight.
