The NL Central Is Up For Grabs
The Milwaukee Brewers are leading the NL Central with a 59-52 record, but the future of the division is anything but certain. The Brewers are just half a game up on the Cincinnati Reds, making every game from here on out highly important. But Milwaukee won just 3 of their last 10 games, opening the door for Cincinnati to take the lead in the NL Central.
The Pittsburgh Pirates on the other hand are not in the running for the division title, nor are they likely to make the playoffs. At 49-60, the Pirates are 4th in the NL Central, 9.0 games back from the Brewers. The Pirates went 6-4 in their last 10, but they are 2-6 against Milwaukee. Pittsburgh averages a respectable 4.25 runs against the Brewers, but they’ve struggled on defense, giving up 7.13 runs per game to Milwaukee through 8 games.
I like the Brewers in this one. Milwaukee has dominated the Pirates this season, scoring 57 runs to Pittsburghs 34. The Pirates have the 3rd-worst run differential in the National League at -80, while the Brewers are sitting at -6. Pittsburgh has struggled on the road, winning just 41.8% of their away games, and they are a lowly 1-4 on Milwaukee’s field this season.
