Match Predictor (Win-Probability): Houston Astros (28.7%); Texas Rangers (71.3%)

The 2023 MLB season continues to churn, and on Friday, June 30th, the Houston Astros will face their bitter rivals, the Texas Rangers. Friday will mark the 257th all-time game between the Astros and Rangers; Texas leads the series 132-124. Houston and Texas played a 3-game series earlier this season, and the Rangers won that as well, going 2-1 while scoring 17 runs and allowing 11 to the Astros.

The Houston Astros (43-37)

The reigning champion Houston Astros, who have been in the World Series four times in the last six years, are having a tough month of baseball. In June, the Astros are 11-14 (44.0%), a sharp decline from their stellar performance in May when they went 17-10 (62.9%). In their last 10 games the Astros were 4-6, and in their last 20 they were 7-13. Houston has a top-notch defense, allowing just over 4.0 runs per game, but they rank near the middle-of-the-pack in every other statistical metric. Yordan Alvarez, who leads the Astros with 17 home runs in 57 games, remains sidelined with an oblique injury, yet despite the pitfalls, Houston remains 2nd in the AL West, 6th in the American League, and 11th in the MLB, with a 60% chance to reach the postseason.

The Texas Rangers (49-31)

The Texas Rangers are having their best season since 2016, when they 95-67 but lost in the AL Divisional Series. They are currently at 49-31 (61.3%), putting them in 1st place in the AL West, 2nd place in the American League, and 3rd place in the MLB. The Rangers are projected to finish at 92-70, and have a 74% chance to see the playoffs for the first time in 7 seasons. A World Series title has eluded the Rangers for 62 years, but as the best-offense in baseball, Texas has a good chance to win the franchises first ever championship this season. Averaging 5.98 runs per game, and leading the MLB in total runs, hits, team batting average, run differential, and RBIs, the Texas Rangers have been a tough nut to crack this season.

Astros vs. Rangers Jays Prediction

Take the Texas Rangers to beat the Houston Astros in the Battle for Texas on Friday, June 30th. The Lone Star Series may not be the oldest rivalry in baseball, but it is one of the best. The Rangers lead the series by 8 games, but it’s been the Astros who have had the final say in recent meetings, going 14-6 against Texas in the last 20 matchups. Unfortunately, due to injuries to several key players, Houston will not fare as well on Friday. The Rangers are a top-3 team with an absolutely blistering offense that will carry them to victory over their state rivals on Friday.
