The Miami Marlins Are Floundering
After a promising start, the Miami Marlins looked like legitimate championship contenders. They were a top-5 offense in terms of total hits, and won over 57% of their games before the All-Star break. But in the second half of the season, things fell apart. Miami is 13-27 since returning from the mid-season break, making them even 66-66 overall, but consequently dropping them from playoff contention. Miami won just 3 of their last 10, averaging 2.8 runs, 7.3 hits, 1.2 home runs, and 4.1 runs against per game.
The Washington Nationals are having another disappointing season. After winning the World Series in 2019, the Nationals have missed the postseason every year since, and at 62-71, they will miss the playoffs once again. The Nationals are 4.5 games behind the Marlins in the NL East, and 2-7 against Miami on the year, but I like their chances on Thursday. The Nationals won 6 of their last 10, averaging 3.5 runs, 7.7 hits, 0.8 home runs, and 4.8 runs against per game. It will be a close game, but with Miami lamenting about what could have been, the Nationals will come out nice and loose with nothing to lose.
For our Marlins vs. Nationals expert pick, take the Washington Nationals Moneyline (+136) on Thursday.
